that's so true but why is that a negative? great review man

I personally don't think that it is a negative, but I'm convinced that a lot of people found The King Of Limbs to be underwhelming because of that

In what way did they "reinvent" alternative rock? Radiohead's influence on rock music as a whole is a lot smaller and more miniscule then some of their fans seem to think. You didn't see 200 new garage bands trying to ape Radiohead like truly innovative groups that "re-invented" rock music before them (like Nirvana, the Sex Pistols, or The Beatles) did. They do their own thing and nobody else really sounds anything like them. That's awesome and unique, but it's certainly not "re-inventing" something so that future bands are forever changed because of their impact. Radiohead are like their own little movement and genre, their actual noticeable impact on rock as a whole has been very small, regardless of how many "Best Album Ever" awards are thrown around at OK Computer. Shit nu-metal and post-grunge was dominating the rock charts when Radiohead were at their creative, commercial, and critical peak. Hardly as influential as some claim them to be.

How old were you when OK Computer came out?

I was going to explain the radiohead changing alt rock but anyone who disputes that point really doesn't deserve the effort.

I really need to get this

I always have this predisposed judgement that a remix is a re-hashed, uncreative mixture that will never reach the original's climatic peak.

Here's the flaw in your argument, xfearbefore: you're conflating chart achievement and influencing other bands (in other words, notoriety) with "reinventing alternative rock." It is possible to reinvent alternative rock without having to do either of those things.

I suppose it is, but then I guess that depends on your definition of the ever so esoteric phrase "re-invent alternative rock". To me, something that "re-invents" a genre absolutely 100% has to have influenced other popular and acclaimed artists in the same genre. Otherwise, what did it "re-invent" exactly? Creating a unique album is one thing, but there have been totally alternative and "unique" albums that didn't sound like anything else since the dawn of rock and roll. I mean, shit, nothing sounds like The Monks from the 60s, nothing ever will, but they didn't "re-invent" rock and roll in the 60s because nobody really followed their lead. Same with Radiohead.

It all really depends on what you consider "re-inventing" a genre. To me, just making a unique and creative and innovative album isn't enough. You need to have a tangible impact on the genre as a whole to lay claim to any real re-invention. Just my take.

How old were you when OK Computer came out?

I'm not sure how that's in any way relevant? I've listened to that album a good 50 or 60 times and while I appreciate it and even enjoy a large ,part of it very much, to me, it's always been one of the most overrated albums ever, simply because I constantly see people award it "greatest album EVER" awards and to me that's absurd, because it isn't even Radiohead's best album IMO. Still though, not sure why my age when OK Computer came out would be relevant.

It's relevant because I'd like to know if you can remember the influence that album had on the alt rock scene at the time of its release. Not hard really.....

@xfear

Coldplay and Muse are direct influences from Radiohead. Aside from that Kid A completely changed a take on alternative rock or indie music in the 2000's. Listen to albums by The Notwist, Grandaddy, Wilco during that time period a lot of a experimental nature was included because of Kid A. Considering you dig blink-182's new album I don't know if you know much anyways. Listen to any indie rock in the early 2000's, there is a huge influence.
