This ended up being one of my favorite 2011 releases. Still spinning it. It's fun switching from this to Corrupted or the
stripped down 40 watt sun. By fun I mean utterly depressing yet still engaging.

I think the only complaint I have is that I wish the intro to Stained Glass Sky was a separate track. Minor quibble, it just melts face though.

Really? I love the whole extended jamming and soloing before the actual song gets going. I wouldn't want to hear the song without it. Reminds me of the intro to "Nothing Left to Say" actually. That's one of the few moments that felt familiar. Aresti and Matheos trading solos just like back in the good old days. Man, I can't wait for the new FW album, haha. m/

If I had heard this sooner it definitely would have been a top 5 AOTY contender for me.
Progressive metal done right is great to hear.
You're right about the beginning of Stained Glass Sky, though. The transition at the three minute mark is really jarring.

Aso: Like I said, minor quibble. I pretty much play the intro more often than I do the whole song (listen, skip back, listen, skip back, then onto the whole song) it's a gorgeous bit of song writing.
I have an old ass cd player in my car so I tend to make instrumental comps for when I'm driving and that's one that I want in there but it just takes up so much space (only 70mins of music to a disc).
I guess I could just edit it myself. Feels like sacrilege though.

I like this way more than any Fates Warning release I've heard.

Perfect Symmetry and A Pleasant Shade of Gray are the only FW albums I hold in higher regard.
@Jruined: Ah, you want to be able to listen to the instrumental portion by itself. Gotcha. Yeah, it does rule. I especially love when the acoustic guitar first comes in along with that melodic lead. Great stuff.

Yeah this is probably my album of 2011.
Shame I've only had it for two or three weeks.

This seriously rules so much.
Stained Glass Sky might actually be my least favorite song 0_o It's at least my least favorite of the three 10+ minute tracks.

midnight serendes is my favorite track, followed by the first track, the last 3 tracks don't jive with me.
but man, the main riff in Serenades makes me wanna fucking box, like real professional boxing. Or punch a punching bag like im training for a heavyweight bout jeez.

On the first few listens through On the Fence did nothing for me but I really enjoy it now...it's the most interesting/different track on the album. And if Neurotically Wired isn't my favorite track here, it's definitely Any Given Day.

Cool, Yazz. On The Fence was my original favorite track. Love the odd time groove throughout. John's melodies in there are unbelievable too. And that unique harmonic thing in place of a traditional guitar solo is amazing. But yeah, Any Given Day (Strangers Like Me) is the song that I'm really feeling at the moment, especially the Strangers Like Me part of it. I think that might be my favorite section of music on the whole album now.
Listened to this today for the first time in over a month or so and it's just as amazing as ever.

It's grown off of me slightly but it's still fantastic. Neurotically Wired is definitely my favorite.
