I mean, it's not even pretentious at all. Especially for a Jazz album. Are you just talking about the black history concept?

this is really good but its getting overrated as shit by a lot of people i know who don't really listen to jazz. i guess its getting a lot of attention from internet. hopefully it gets more people into jazz though

that said, this is by no means bad. I just wouldn't consider it immediately to be high art like some
people do just because its jazz and there is a girl screaming and there is a overarching concept being
explored that gives it this kind of edgy intellectual, avant-garde appeal

i dont understand why people call these things pretentious, its like as soon as you attach a concept to something its pretentious, or if you play something people dont easily understand you are just being pretentious.

i'm sitting here listening to Coal Chamber and thinking this is way better than Matana Roberts

just try me guy who needs to waste time with things like backing up arguments and evidence that is not what the founding fathers of this forum had in mind when they made this voyage several years ago

If you are into black metal then you should really check this out. It has the most tortured shrieks on any album you'll hear in 2011.
