This is like the 5th best Meshuggah album.

If by normal-sounding you mean godly-sounding then yes.

I listened to this album for a year without realizing it was two vocalists. I'm so dumb, lol.

@Darius The rhythm guitarist that they only had on this album is really the unsung hero.

He sounds like he’s vomiting on no sleep. That’s kind of my issue.

Yep, I think Steak mentioned in this thread that the rhythm guitarist here was the main songwriter. He left before No Sleep and they stuck with having only one guitarist, which is why the songwriting on the next two albums feels a bit more bland.

Barr kills it on the next album though. It’s not even fair how damn good he sounds.

He always sounds the exact fucking same. On every single song. That's kind of his gimmick. He has a unique voice/delivery that he's utilized since day 1. He just can't write a song without Barr to save his life.

No Sleep junz almost as hard as this... It's just shorter and has more ambient interludes. Most of the grooves on it demolish though.

Jens would never sing that clean chorus tho :P

I've been following this band for years. Barr wrote all of Gus's parts, that's why they always sounded sick together. Then Gus kicked Barr out of his own band and Terry took over. Terry split vocal duties with Gus but he did his own shit and let Gus do his own which was apparently a new thing for him, because he started writing exclusively about heroin, banging chicks and how much he hates Barr. That last album was fucking painful.

No, they occasionally have cleans on some songs. Their newest one has a lot more because Terry is only a clean singer. And I never noticed the Pineal Gland Optics similarity, gonna have to compare that haha

Yeah there's cleans on that one, more than this one actually. It's a really good album. It's like barely 30 minutes long though.

Yeah I can see that. I enjoy him in small doses. He's definitely an acquired taste...

Barr is one of my favs as far as mid-range monotone screaming goes. Jens is better of course, but Barr is really great. He never phones it in.

I don't get Meshuggah vibes from this at all. Of course the influence is always there with these sorts of bands, but Meshuggah is probably the last thing that has ever been on my mind while listening to this.

It's almost the same, just more melody-driven with some really heavy parts.

This band is a whole hell of a lot more melodic than Meshuggah (dat alliteration). These guys also don't really play with time signatures.
