You could say that one could draw a lot of... parallels...? Between the two?
Pull me Under=Backs of Angels: solid, straightforward 8-minute opener
Learning To Live=Breaking All Illusions: amazing 12-minute epic with lots of emotive qualities
Outcry=Metropolis: super long wanky instrumental sections, extremely dramatic in places
Bridges In The Sky=Under A Glass Moon: both slightly heavier but not super complicated before building to amazing solo
The ballads pretty much cancel each other out
You get the point, some of them are a stretch but you can't deny a lot of uncanny similarities, especially given how the band went back to their roots (sound more like your original best album) and stopped trying so hard to be dark and heavy.

Yup, the song structures for quite a few songs are pretty much taken from I&W.
A dramatic turd of events

Quality wise I&W shits on this hard

Still some of the most legitimate wankery they have done in the last 10 years. Not that wankery should ever be legitimate, though.

Oh yeah, we can agree on that.
Doesn't mean I'll be happy compromising

This is better than the self-titled album, imo.

Last really good DT was Black Clouds. This was ok but the s/t was garbage.

To put it politely, the s/t sucked.

S/t had shorter, more concise songs (aside from "Illumination Theory").
This album had an, I dunno, more story-telling/thematic quality to it, similar to Black Clouds...?

Yea this has some pretty cool songs still. Sucks that the guitars sound like plastic Chinese toys. The production on this sucks so hard IMO.

Production on s/t is way worse... And the guitars sound great, Mark V is such a powerful and versatile amp.

A lot of this is pretty enjoyable, reminds me of I&W and FII
might be my favorite post-Octavarium release for what that's worth haha
