Both are great back to back albums to listen to, such a peculiar sound to these guys...

Fables hasn't aged well honestly. Compared to this it sounds very safe. This one features much bolder and more creative ideas and sounds and steps further outside lf their alt-rock trappings

Yeah, this pushes further out, but winds up a little more uneven (RIKKI TIKKI)

Fables keeps it closer to home, but just fucking nails the songwriting. April Fools and Eggmen is pre much a perfect song, like

Nobody else sounds like either one of 'em, though. So thank God they put out a couple classics before life happened

Fables just sounds so weak to me now after all these years. I still think the bookends and April are stellar but everything else starts sounding same-y after a while. Also Rikki Tikki is so good wut

I agree that this has aged better than Fables, but I still hold Fables in high regard. It sounds safe now, but back then it was considered avant garde. And make no mistake, 'Dance of the Manatee' still slaps hard.

But, Musical Chairs and Golden Parachutes are the songs that I come back to most when it comes to this band.

Dance and say when both still rule hard. But whiskey, loophole, amarillo, rikki tikki, tornado and greener grass are all better than everything else off fables

Really wish they'd start a fundraiser for a new album. Would pay top dollar for that and try to spread the word for it on r/ProgMetal and wherever else

Also Fables is better ya goofs

Fables is more coherent and consistent, this has a few higher highs and a few lower lows

But Christ that's all relative, both records are home runs that cleared the stadium

@Porcupine I completely agree with that. I like Fables just a bit more as I prefer the hooks and vocals there (I mean Kyla Cries Cologne and April Fools....come on). But both are super refreshing and memorable albums that I won't ever forget
