Just took the time to listen to this for the first time. Outside of Come Clarity and Foregone, this has their most inspired songwriting post-Clayman.

I know you're gonna hate what I'm gonna say here Flug but RTR is mid af. Production is dogshit (though it kind of is on most IF albums to be fair) and it's definitely a growing pains type of album. The vocal change was for the worst, the melodies were nowhere near what they were on Clayman, most of the riffs are forgettable af. I don't get it.



It's just a much worse version of Come Clarity.

Melodeath just isn't really my thing, I think constant, monotone growls with super melodic guitars sounds dumb. I also do think the songwriting on those albums is kinda messy, though a lot of sections are super inspired I can't deny that. For what little it's worth I think Whoracle is marginably better.



But Clayman is so fucking good that it almost transcends my issues with the overall genre. Also their best production, at the very least in their classic era.

idk I've seen people trash it both here and on rym, speaking of which it's one of the lowest track ratings from the album (not counting the predictable reception of Jester's Door) and and it feels pretty random to me

I really like The Attic. Easily among the most unique In Flames tracks and it has a really solid atmosphere.
