I listened to this again and realized that it deserved 5 stars. It truly is a black metal classic.

This is a haunting piece of metal. So melodic, yet so dark and aggressive...RIP ol' good DissectionThis Message Edited On 12.26.05

I just started listening to this a few days ago. My god, this is unbelievable. Very melodic but still very blackened and extreme. I love how Jon goes from a primal scream to a harmonized lead guitar section. Incredible stuff.

Yes, this album is probably the best black metal album to date.

I like it, but it gets boring for me a bit quickly.

Can you please explain why you think it gets boring?

I don't really know, I just find my attention slipping away when I listen to it. It's still a good solid album, but it's not really my type of BM.
I'm not into the whole melodic black thing, but I do enjoy this.

Damn this album is good. I keep coming back to this over and over. Every song is amazing and the whole thing is very dark and melodic, like Stoic said. Time to learn me some Night's Blood.

I still have high hopes for Reinkaos, although most will call me crazy anfter Maha Kali.

Bumped for greatness. This is surely the best black metal album ever created.

Shadows, can you play Night's Blood now?

Nah, I haven't gotten a chance yet. I need to take the time to tab it all out, which I haven't been able to get yet.

Soon though. Once I do I'll work relentlessly on it. m/

Bumped for sheer greatness. This clearly is black metal's defining moment.

It's a good album, but hardly Black Metal's defining moment.

Great review. I liked how you actually went into detail on the good and bad points of the album.

I think this was one of my first extreme metal CDs, and I loved it.

I still can't get over the excellence of Ohmans drumming. The "rebirth" just isn't the same without him.

His drumming was certainly good. I love his style of fills throughout the album, how he starts fast and gradually slows down. It's a really cool style that he uses quite a bit in most of the songs.

The lead guitar parts in "Where Dead Angels Lie" are amazing. Simply amazing.

My favorite black metal album, just edging out Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk, Leviathan's Tentacles of Whorror, and the woods of ypres album pursuit of the sun & the allure of the earth

My favorite song has to be "Where Dead angels lie" just for that main riff and the absolutely evil vibe it conveys

The Rape of the Innocent indeed

Glad to see that I'm not the only one here who has this as their favorite black metal album. Every song is just so great.
