"always in-depth discussion on conrad's review-threads..."
I hope that's a good thing, Eric!!

Has a lot to live up to as the debut has remained a 5 for me, but if the sound is fuller/more propulsive, I don't think that's a bad thing. I should love it.

Excellent review. This album is nothing short of stunning. "Blue Spotted Tail" is a contender for Track of the Year in my book.

As Arthur from King of Queens would say, "Yes Douglas... It is a wonderful album!" But, yeah, definitely give it a listen or two. It's pretty spectacular, and I went into it after reading the Rolling Stone interview in which Robin Pecknold claimed his girlfriend, upon first hearing the album, called him and said, "If this is why we broke up, then I understand. It was worth it." So, suffice it to say, my expectations were a bit high, and they were surpassed. Hope you enjoy it.

Thanks, guys! I do have a question, though: does anybody agree with my interpretation of the title track? Heh.

I think it's neither happy, nor sad. It's resigned. It's different. It's comforting and sad at the same time. There's a certain feeling of being at home in helplessness, hence the "If I had an orchard / I'd work 'till I was sore" line. He's saying, "If I can just embrace the absurdity of life, I'll then, at least, live the hell out of it." I hate being a middle of the road guy, but I think dividing this song into "sad" vs "happy" and "pessimistic" vs "optimistic" is doing it a profound diservice. Still, "Blue Spotted Tail" is the best song on the album. Hands down.

He sounds like Camus in the Myth of Sysiphus and The Rebel in the title track. It's all about his battle with coming to terms with the absurd. Or, perhaps, continuing battle with the absurd. That's the ultimate expression of absurdity; impotence and helplessness in the most basic sense of the word. The man on the screen is a reference to bering remembered after death. "No one is truly dead, so long as one person lives that remembers him."

Idk there's something really polarizing about the way they do melodies and stuff it's kind of like Grizzly Bear only I don't like it nearly as much.
|

I always found it the other way around. Much prefer Fleet Foxes over Grizzly Bear.

I honestly don't think they're comparable. I prefer Fleet Foxes even though I like both. But Grizzly Bear have much more humor in their music and their approach is quite academic.

I always found Fleet Foxes to be more earthed and honest. Grizzly Bear is like...more 'masked'
