Yeah the drum parts on this are the ones I made on my computer. Our actual drummer is a badass.

It's because they're pretty fake and lifeless. I don't like then much either but this entire EP was made by me and my brother
(our vocalist).

They're pretty terrible but I pretend to like them to blend in with the scenesters. Also, our EP/demo is not longer than most
full-lengths this time. :P

And iPod, if only you where a bit younger my advice I was going to give would actually work.

I've always wanted to write music but I never know how to.
How do you write your songs?

I might be getting together with a band soonishly, we at least have a gig on June 3rd. We're just going to be doing some covers of Thrice, Anberlin, and bands like that.

What we really need is a vocalist, because our guitarist is doing vocals right now and there is much to be desired. He and our lead guitarist are amazing though; he's trained in classical and the lead in jazz.

/info no one wanted to know : )

Emim- random info is always good.

Fr33- lol, if i was going to move into the music industry i would very much like to be behind the scenes, management, AandR, proffesional reviews etc.

Anarchist- Random ideas/riffs/beats/ etc. improvisation is gold.

@Anarchist: I think it's a lot simple process than most bands try to make it. I just kind of open up GarageBand, make a drum track I like and fill in the blanks for each spot. If you're a guitarist, after you write a part think of what it feels like. Is it a verse part? Maybe an obnoxiously annoying pop-punk chorus? Then that's what you'd use it for in the song. These metalcore bands who write a bunch of unconnected bridges are really just making it harder for themselves. I find that if you don't overthink it and everything works out fine.

@Emim: That's pretty cool dude. Are you going to actually write stuff or just kind of cover stuff for the hell of it? I have some classical and jazz training as well

Yeah. I think the trouble I have (which I discovered when doing Music coursework) is that I usually write one idea for a couple of bars and follow it up with a completely different one, and it ends up sounding jagged and awkward. My music taste is really fickle as well. One week I can be really digging pop-punk and the next I'm suddenly into post-rock or djent, and that influences it. I guess I'd have to ignore genre tags and go out with a single goal in mind.
I play guitar but mainly I'm a pianist. My younger brother's just started playing drums, so something might work out sometime.

Just cover stuff for the hell of it. I'm pretty sure he wants to make it into a full on band eventually though.

I just need a kit I can gig with.

Really it's just a process of knowing which parts to put where. If you don't think something works well then start writing a different song using that part. Over the past year or so I've written close to a hundred and fifty songs. Some times I borrowed parts I made for other songs just to see if I found a better context for it. You never know, some times the changes you add later, even if they don't really seem to be the standard "chorus" or whatever (the clean part to Intolerance) really make the song.

Ok, cheers.
I think for what I have in mind it'd be better to have a good idea of what the song should sound like and how it'd be structured but I'll see what works and I might change my mind anyway.

Screamed verses with clean choruses are my love.

Make sure you get those pop-punk drums and angsty vocals pumpin' straight into the breakdown m/
