if i had to criticize it i am not a great big fan of "beside you" and "young lovers" does sort of mess with the flow a bit...but all songs except "besides you" are very near and dear to me and this is an uniquely gorgeous album

i think "young lovers" works very well as a "track B1" and less well as a "track 5", if that makes sense

Yeah, "Beside You" is probably the weakest track here, if I had to pick, and stuff like "Cyprus Avenue" and "Madame George" are the highest of the highlights, but as a whole this is just unmatched in the dreamlike vibe - I can throw this on anytime and get totally pulled into the world it creates.

Damn id say beside you is in the upper half for me. The first four are absolutely breathtaking. Then yeah Madame George is the standout on the second side

yeh ocasionally i'll forget how good this album is and then i'll plonk it on and immediately get whisked away into this astral celtic dreamworld replete with these gorgeous burbling impressionistic instrumentals seemingly soaked in the light and dew of an early spring morning, whilst this so called Van bloke, son of Morri, jabbers on about some street in belfast where he used to buy fish and chips from after school. it's just lovely jubbly stuff innit. lightning in a bottle and whathaveyou

goat album agreed

I guess ol' Van is sort of a shitbag but i've made a career out of separating art from the artist at the expense of my moral credibility so whatever man, shit's absolute fire.
