Looks like I'm the only person on Sputnik who still actually thinks that Scar Symmetry is (and has always been) original, and not exactly having much to do with Gothenburg. Gothenburg is like Dark Tranquillity, Insomnium, Mors Principium Est. This is nothing alike, and much less bland thanks to the pop catchiness.

Into Eternity did this style so much better when they were actually good.

I loved Into Eternity on their debut and Dead or Dreaming. Songs on Buried in Oblivion seemed like they were stitched together from random riffs like the Frankenstein Monster, so no... but the Scattering of Ashes was brilliant. And The Incurable Tragedy tried to repeat TSoA but failed miserably and it sucks anus.
This aside, I don't really think that Into Eternity and Scar Symmetry are very similar to each other. Canada's Divinity would be a clearer counterpart to associate with Into Eternity for me... even if you can find common points between those two bands, it's just two, while bands like Insomnium have a plethora of nigh-exat clones - I know two: MPE and Skyfire, but I'm certain there are more. And I never could find a band that actually tries to sound anywhere close to Scar Symmetry - even that shitty ripoff Solution .45 falls miles short.

Buried in Oblivion is in my top 5 metal albums of all time tbh. That album had fantastic guitar work that stayed melodic while being technical as hell, meshed together with fantastic vocals and some of the catchiest choruses I've ever heard. It all fit so well together for me.

Not to say I don't enjoy BIO, but songs like Isolation are pure wankfests. I mean it's no fucking songwriting, it's like building a song from random LEGO pieces. The vocals were more annoying than Stu's too.

Eh I don't really agree with you at all, but it's all good. Opinions are opinions.

If I want crazy song structures I go for Theory in Practice or Divinity. In those bands it actually sounds thought-through :P

But thanks for reminding me... I'ma have a spin of Buried in Oblivion. The opening track slays, no question about that.

Haha no problem man. I might listen to it sometime before I go to sleep too. It's been a while.

Damn Hawks. I retract what I said... I'm at "Embraced by Desolation" now, and I'm fucking blown away. Even by the vocals :D
As for The Unseen Empire, I still think it's very good (so there's no offtopic)

Told you man. One of the best metal albums ever made. Shit is so catchy while still being technically proficient.

I think Isolation is the only track I can't quite embrace... probably due to the badly placed "memories if isolation" line. The rest is gold, though :P

Guess what, Hawks? Fuck you. I enjoyed even Isolation on this listen-through. Also gave that album a 4.5. I think I'll up that to a 5 though.

Good to hear. It's an easy 5 for me. Always has been. Just started playing it right now.

My most often listened tracks by Into Eternity have to be Identify and Paralyzed, though. I love these energetic album closers, some of their very best songs too.

curseworship, if you wish you can perceive us talking about into eternity here as judging The Unseen Empire as unworthy of talking about. I still feel comfortable giving it a fucking 4,5, though. ha.
