Should this be listened to as a double album or as two separate albums that are linked? Everywhere else but here seems to have Alien Observer and Dream Loss listed separately.

I mean they don't have to be jammed at the same time I guess but I would recommend it.

I’ll probably slot out a time to check them both out but will likely not continue to listen to them together after that.

I was going to comment about how much I love this album, but honestly fuck words because they don't suffice.

You won’t like Dream Loss Boney. Hear Alien Observer first.

admittedly i've become a little jaded after playing it upwards of 100-200 times now, but i've yet to find an album where that isn't the case

I tend to underplay my favorite albums instinctively for that reason maybe.

I just don’t listen to my favorite albums much, period. Not because I want to avoid overplaying them but because there’s so much more music still out there.

I personally couldn’t imagine refraining from playing the albums I currently love but I’ve never had much in the way ofrestraint.

When I first check out an album that ends up in the 4.5 or even 5 territory I do listen to it a lot more times than other albums but eventually it will fall out of rotation and I’ll only go back to it every now and then. For example Radiohead have been my favorite band for practically as long as I’ve been a serious music fan but I’ve probably only listened to full Radiohead albums like 5 times in the past year.

Yeah that’s the common course I think. I think albums have extra staying power when you associate them closely with certain stages or events in your life too as opposed to ‘just a cool sounding album that I discovered after work one day’ for Example passage - das tor reminds me of skiing during a blizzard since I had it playing in my earphones beneath the helmet. This one reminds me of uni assignments in the early hours and driving to and from the campus during the night (it probably wasn’t the best album To keep me awake behind the wheel really).

That external association is indeed important. I do often fear that I don’t give new albums I love enough time to build up that connection but usually it does just form naturally. Plus all the best albums are in themselves evocative of a certain atmosphere or feeling.

Yeah I mainly agree, altho some more amorphous / ambient albums leave a relatively blank slate and hand the listener a brush with which to paint their own picture so to speak . Definitely this one has an atmosphere of languor, narcosis, warmth, ethereality etc , but I feel it could easily be associated with different experiences

More so than many others.

I love listening to very layered & atmospheric music. That feeling when you find a "new sound" is absolutely transcendent.
