Hahaha....one of the best reviews i've ever read in Sputnik....so funny.

"TV On The Radio are back, and it’s no longer a cock-tease, it’s a full out sex marathon" - favorite line.

This album is awesome! It sure as hell is a sexy album.....

Thanks Brandaao, that's high praise. I love someone who shares my humor. That said, there are a lot of reviews better than this on this site. I'm not there yet. =)

Repetition is one of my favorites.

I can see how people might be able to tolerate it. It's mainly the "next-door neighbour," and "My repetition is this" parts that annoy me. The bridge is good, and instrumentally the end is great.

Ha ha, God, you would hate the live version, they extend the "my repetition is this" a good three minutes.

personally I freaking love it :P

Great review. As promised, here are my comments (sorry for the mild lateness):

i.) First paragraph rules. I mean it. The casual and engaged style is amazing, and managed to sustain my interest for long enough for me to get to the second paragraph - something which doesn't happen enough on this here site.

ii.) This review is about a paragraph too long, which kinda takes away from its overall strength a little - particularly as you seem to want to cover too much ground. I mean, if everything's important, then nothing's important, right? (see my logic here?) If you were to choose to edit this (by this point it doesn't matter, really), I would recommend excising one paragraph, and the best candidate is this one: As it turns out, the bands last LP “Dear Science“ was more than a strong hint at the direction the band was heading, with its increased sense of harmony and its delectable off-kilter groove. But by comparison, that was just the first course, and Nine Types Of Light is the funky eruptive musical fondue. Second Song begins with typical TVOTR anti-melodic vibes, but soon bursts out into a groovy melodic explosion. It wouldn’t sound out of place in a Michael Jackson Concert, and neither would it be entirely inappropriate for a rock opera. The only place the electric dance number would seem erroneously placed would be a TVOTR set. Ironically, it’s only an indication of what’s to come.

It adds nothing to the review and honestly sort of kills the momentum of the first paragraph.

iii.) The final two paragraphs border uncomfortably on being a bit too fanboyish. Extended metaphors rarely work very well, and although yours does work on some level, its rather over-the-top nature might have taken a bit away from the review's impact. Now, I'm not 100% sure on this because I'm rather uncertain how everyone else reacts to it - but that would be my two cents.

I hope this helps and that it was worth the wait. You have definitely improved your standing as a writer in my eyes after doing this one review. Well done mate. Cheers! =)

God, Irving, you're the man.

Yeah, I haven't yet found that balance with my over-the-top humor yet, I've tried taking it out of my reviews, which

honestly weakens them quite a bit, but incorporating it either messes with the flow, borders on irrelevancy, or

cheapens the review's authority. Something to work on for sure.

thanks a lot, definitely gave me a lot of insight. I'll play around with this review a bit tomorrow.

"Its sugarcoated refrain paired with an almost erotic accompaniment of banjo."

It's*

yes?

other than that, really really nice review. I've heard this a few times and it seems great. I like it less than Dear Science at the moment, but I have so many memories associated with that album, I think I just need to give Nine Types Of Light more time.

on a related matter, this is starting to grow on me on about the 5th or 6th listen, just like Dear Science did.

I don't need reviews to be 100% grammatically haha it just threw me off. It makes sense if it's a fragment, ironically.

Fragments rule actually

album is a bit safe for TVoTR standards Robin.

but I agree with you as this stuff just pops off the album 9 times out of 10.

"Killer Crane" is the only track I'd do without...occasionally

CMG letting me down, handing this a 60% while Wiz Khalifa pulls like a 73% : (

idk about 'safe'. i understand why people are thinking it, but this is the exact record i'd expect them to make after a hiatus/time away from eachother. not 'safe', just freeflowing and proof that they all recognise eachother 100%.

also i adore killer crane you're crazy mr.

there is nothing on this album that leaves me going "holy fuck--how does that work?" as much as I'm just left in pleasant-awe while I shake my rump.

Lyrically it is not as arresting as their previous records and I think that's where a lot of the hiccups are occurring with peeps who find this lack-luster. Granted this is just my assessment.

but I'll listen to the first four tracks and "Will Do" + "New Cannonball Run" all day errrrey day.
