I agree about Turnpike Divides, The ending is super pretty. I've said this before but as someone who grew up on Long Island and spent time in NYC and Jersey all my life, hearing him talk about the East Coast is emotional for me to hear. It's like we had similar childhoods all of us who grew up here. If you lived in the ''suburbs'' or whatever.
Another song where he mentions it is War All The Time the parts about growing up too fast and the skyline of New York, and the cliffs by the Hudson River. Super evocative. Them along with Brand New,especially since they literally lived not even 20 miles away from me, were very important when I was growing up. Glad I knew about these bands during adolescence. .
This is like the most sentimental post I've ever made here.

Thursday's discog is full of cool little references to NJ. I read somewhere that the song War All The Time, so really the whole album in some way, is about growing up in New Jersey
also this album is still one of my favorite albums of all time. truly a perfect record

Just amazing that they wrote this entirely in the studio if I remember correctly. Took a couple of weeks.

I think it's more that growing up in the suburbs leads to similar experiences, more than the East Coast...but yeah, I get the same vibes from The Wonder Years' "Suburbia" album since I also grew up in the Philly burbs one town over from Dan Campbell....
anyway, yeah, relistening to this to calibrate my AOTD list and this is still magnificent. Just so steeped in atmosphere, great lyrics and some truly fantastic tracks

I thought so ;] Don't think I'd have there if this weren't the case, but one of the things holding it back from the top spot is that this feels very much like a 00s-inclined legacy album (in the best way)

I don't know how many albums I want to make a list out of for the decade but this one will definitely be high on there. Top 20, maybe top 10.

I love this album but I doubt it would crack the decade top 20 for me. This was the best or second best album in a weak year though

obligatory "omg this album is perfect" comment. I'll never get over how the last section in Turnpike Divides is an easy top 5 moment in music

it's such an engrossing vocal melody but even instrumentally, the way it builds is sublime

I'm fuckin' pissed it took me 9 years to finally come around to this gem. Excuse me while I go and drink more dumb bitch juice.
