“All right class, raise your hand up if you have heard of the band Nickelback.”
“So all of you have I see, keep your hand raised if you own any of their albums?”
“None of you, really?”

Pretty much what would happen in any 10th grade classroom these days save the fact that one or two of the people actually do own an album of theirs, but are to ashamed to admit it, or at least where I live. To tell you the truth, I couldn’t come up with an intro for this so I came up with this stupid thing, but it is truthful. Nickelback have created a formula of writing music and for five straight albums have stuck to it, meaning they have managed to create repetitive, unoriginal, and boring music. Yet, they sell millions each time. You ask, how do they get away with such blasphemy? I answer well by writing a couple of songs each couple of years that are as catchy as their last single in order to hook people into buying their album each and every stinking time. You ask, but how do they get away with it? I answer you can thank MTV and radio stations for overplay that secretly kills one person a year when they hear the same song for the hundredth time. You ask, well what can we do to stop this? I answer, by buying as many Shadows Fall and The Mars Volta albums as you can and then you go on your merry way to buy The War Within and Frances the Mute.

The Long Road is the fourth in the line of albums that have become more unoriginal one after another. This album features some of Nickelbacks popular songs such as Do this Anymore, Someday, and Figured You Out. However, despite unoriginality in the bands music, there are some brilliant lyrics on this album. Believe it or Not, one of the most unoriginal songs musically on here, actually has some brilliant lyrics. While not being straightforward on the song it is easy to figure out that the song is about whether or not a person believes in god. The song would be an above average song to me, but it is plagued by repeating parts and the song could have easily been a little over three minutes long, but to make it seem more unoriginal there is an acoustic part at the beginning of the second half of the song. After that it just repeats the first part of the song.

An example of what Believe it or Not should have been is the first song on the album Flat on the Floor. Only a little over two minutes long this song isn’t really good, but has a driving guitar riff that keeps things slightly interesting, but the some parts repeat over and over is what makes this song, along with almost the rest of the album repetitive and boring despite the short length of the song. In the last sentence I mentioned a driving guitar riff is what keeps things interesting, which is what most of the songs depend on; a driving riff and catchy vocals that after hearing only a slightly different variation of song after song is what really kills this album. There are some songs on here that I like to listen to, such as the hit Someday. It’s a catchy as hell song that I consider to be a good song, but that’s just it; Nickelback write songs that are meant to be heard on the radio and then for the rest of their album they write copy-cat songs that aren’t as good as any of the singles.

There are a few attempts to make the album seem more original, but are either rip offs or just plain boring. Another Hole in the Head’s intro sounds like a rip off of something that Creed would have written. Should’ve Listened is a mostly acoustic song that sounds like a regular Nickelback song, but is replaced with acoustic guitars instead of electric. Which is worse than their electric songs. Also, something I must mention, the single Feelin’ Way to Damn Good is one of the worst songs that I have ever heard and is so boring and cliché to me that I wish they didn’t even put this on the album because I just absolutely hate it. This entire album is stricken with songs that sound like each other and aren’t to original to begin with. The lyrics on a few songs are great and well written, but don’t manage to save this album from the extreme repetitiveness. Overall you would be better of with even a Creed album, this album gets an awful rating of 1 out of 5. Leave some feedback on your thoughts on the album and the review thanks.

Again. I'm effing aware this is the third time to turn this in. There is a problem that only mx can fix and I'm just doing what Damrod and Med57 are telling me to do.

The other two are gone now along with the votes, those that voted please vote again if you see this. This Message Edited On 11.11.05

Thanks for submitting it again man. It's very appreciated. Never heard this, but your review seems to be an accurate reflection of what most people I listen to say about it. I liked Silver Side Up when I first heard it, but they get old incredibly fast.

They're not THAT bad.

Flat on The Floor is a good song. Believe it or not is averege. Everything else sounds The same. I'd say a 2, not a 1.

I still like the album The State. They just got worse with each album they put out. I thought Curb and The State weren't too bad.

I haven't heard the album from start to finish, but i have heard most of the songs on it.

Some of the songs on the album are okay but if you want a band of versatility and change... Nickelback is the last band you want to hear.

When will Nickelback draw away from the use of distortion.. I'm getting sick of it.. who else is?

That's because both of those albums showed promise from the band, but it went down hill after The State.

I'm having a difficult time understanding why this album is being abused so much. Sure, it's not the best Hard Rock you'll ever hear, but it is not half bad. I like Someday, Can't Do This Anymore, See You At The Show, and Figured You Out.

Photograph is the only good Nickelback song, but they are truly quite horrible. These guys are the song who sing the one that starts "I like my hands around your neck" right?
