I think this should be judged for what it is-a worship album. Kudos for Gillespie to have the balls to make this. Lyrics are lame, though. I wish Christian musicians would write something more profound (i.e, MWY, Norma Jean) but the musicianship is generally good.

making a generic worship album probably takes the least balls of any type of music in existence

I'm curious as to what justifies the 4 rating then. Yes the lyrics are lame, but the music doesn't
make up for it at all

listened to this and i don't really get all the hate about it.
its a halfway decent worship album that's going to get overhyped cause of the 'Aaron Gillespie' tag.

Does saying it's a worship album give it lower standards, if that's the case then it's at least a 2

i like it.

it's okay. I'd say it's deserving of somewhere around a 3. it's not TERRIBLE, it's just bland. Basically, it just sounds like your average worship music, but Aaron Gillespie is singing it.

Former Underoath - & current The Almost - singer, Aaron Gillespie, has recorded a worship LP for his 1st solo release... And he rarely hides his devotion to Jesus. His sincerity may be admirable, but the obvious nature of the lyrics does get preachy over 44 minutes. While nothing is too awful, Anthem Song's simplicity & lack of variation is frustrating & it could have done with rocking things up a little more. Ultimately however, this album's effectiveness depends on if you can stomach the lyrics & how much you liked the young Floridian's distinctive voice in the first place. Recommended Tracks: You Are My Everything, Anthem Song & All Things.

Hmm maybe I was bit too harsh on it, I would give it another spin but really can't be bothered to care about it

He's gonna be playing in a church in my town that I might go see. Went to that church once for mass and go to the grounds every year for the Christmas lights it's kind of big I guess.

He wrote a worship album. The whole concept of that isn't original. This album isn't for anyone who
doesn't share his faith essentially (though there are always exceptions of course). The lyrics are
made as statements of love for God in a very blatant way. And I would say for him in the music scene
he is associated with it did take balls to make this, the very way it's been torn apart for the very
nature of what it is, shows that people can't handle someone singing essentially to those with a
religious faith blatantly about that faith.
On to the music I feel he excels with the acoustic songs over the more rock type songs. Ascend the
Hill and others definitely do worship in a more creative way but overall it's not a bad album.
