^^^Yeah, they pretty much created an unscalable mountain with that album. The last 4 minutes is metal musical perfection.

This album takes patience and is more subtle, which I see as a sign of maturity in their writing. Blasting out drunken energy all the time is fucking tiring, and is a very superficial layer of what music can really

do. It can be fun for a while, but there is a time to move on.

That was never really what they were doing though (especially on the last couple of albums).

I exaggerated for affect... They were higher energy.

You make your point well. I agree that the songwriting here is actually quite good, but sacrificing that high energy to do that was the wrong choice imho.

Also, coming up with two 30 minute songs that are amazingly good means their writing chops were probably at their peak at that point.

It was a pretty big exaggeration IMO. Drunken energy brings to mind bands like Korpiklaani or Alestorm. Moonsorrow has always had a much more "mystical" sound to their music which is what made them so great. They definitely still have it here but I'm with Portal, without the energy it isn't as engaging as it used to be.

It was a pretty shitty exaggeration. Don't get me wrong, I've dug every album they've put out. But I'm glad they've moved on to a more mature writing style. It's darker and more subdued, and the depth takes patience

to acquire. This shows signs of a deeper vision that's not so prevalent in "higher energy" scenarios. They're not shackled to such a suffocating formula, which allows their artistic expression to age like a fine wine.

Idk, I wouldn't consider lots of what's on Verisakeet as being higher "drunken" energy type of music

I mean I wouldn't mind this being less energetic than their usual stuff if the songs themselves weren't so bland.

I gave it another try and got bored like 4 minutes into the first track. Guess this album just isn't for me :P

It's all good. I'll keep enjoying it... don't worry about it.
