Who the hell tagged PJ Harvey post-punk? She's not even close except or maybe a few moments of Rid of Me

Yeah that doesn't really make sense to me and yet it has 2 votes.

I'm not into all that "Love X country, X country is the best, politicians all corrupt X(, X country's people unite!" protest song, prefer the punk aproach, personally.

When I can zone out myself of the lyrics, I really, really enjoy this.

I think there are very few explicit traces of that being the case on this record. The argument of preachiness could be made, but that's your interpretation of lyrics that are a lot more open in that they're being non-specific in intent.

Yeah, you can say that there IS some preachiness oozing from it, even if the lyrics are most of the time open to interpretation--

Death was everywhere:

In the air

And in the sounds

Coming off the mounds...

Haunting.

This is the album everyone should listen to on Remembrance Sunday.

Seeing your own country through such an informed and critical lens is a very unique experience.

I think this is PJ's masterwork. Almost every musical motif on here was instantly memorable and moving.

This would be her masterwork if she didn't have like 4 other masterpieces under her belt too.

As much as I love her other work, this stands out as the best.

On any given day it could be this, To Bring, Stories, Desire or even White Chalk for me - her works are so diverse I find them hard to compare to one another.

I know this is going to sound like a load of wank but bear with me- I just feel such a connection to this album in terms of themes that it just clicks with me. It's almost spiritual but I just feel everything in the music, it's such a powerful reflection on war and British history.
