Glassjaw and Deftones share a few influences from post-hardcore bands like Quicksand and Fugazi, but other than plodding / heavy rhythms and an unusual singer that's about as close as they get. The comparison was always reaching, they just have vaguely similar aesthetics at times and Deftones is way more straightforward musically.
