I wouldn't know much about the influence, but I'm assuming it led to more artists using samples, but correct me if i'm wrong.
I wouldn't say it;s quintessential either. I mean, I'm a huge fan of trip hop, but I really fail to see how this is anything other than an instrumental hip hop album, as brostep pointed out.
