I hate this album. Reasons.....
1. Terrible production
2. Crappy lyrics along with stupid rapping by corey
3. Simplistic and annoying guitar riffs
IMO this album sucks.

Slipknot is far from death metal. They're either Nu-Metal or simply Metal. You choose. They are definitely not death metal or anything close to it. Go listen to Arch Enemy, Kataklysm, Death, or Behemoth, and you've got death metal.
However, this doesn't mean this album isn't good. I like nu-metal too. You were right about the deteriorating over time, they just got worse. Vol. 3 Strays into nu-metal and even rock too much. Oh and shadows, this is probably their LEAST nu-metal album. Look at Vol. 3 closer.

i agree they're not entirely death metal (and yes, i AM familiar with Death and arch enemy and Kataklysm), but they're definitely not nu-metal either.

lol, I never said I didn't like Slipknot, or nu-metal in general. I've actually listened to nu-metal for longer than i've listened to death/black metal. I used to be in love with it, and I still like it. Kataklysm is by no means my favorite band. It's just one of the bands I have that are classified as "death metal". I actually don't have that many as of yet, since I've just gotten into it. Just because I say something isn't placed under the correct genre, it is in no way an insult to the band.

True. This album is more metalcore in way...or something in itself. But it's much closer to nu-metal than it is to death metal.
