"Well then maybe they just need to learn to accept this unconventional way of interpreting the lyrics, because that is what the band intended and it is well executed in that regard."
Yeah let's all listen to music correctly and agree with what we imagine a band intends.
I've been reading through this thread and have decide that Phlebas wins the argument for this comment. If someone needs to explain that something you don't like about a certain album is a stylistic choice, then I'm quitting listening to music.
I like this album, but agree it's overrated (slightly). However, I feel that most of the ratings below 3 are an exaggeration because this is a "sputnik classic." I mean even when I didn't like it, I never thought it was "poor" or "average" It just left me cold and I wrote it off as something I didn't really understand.
you don't have to rate every album you listen to.

thanks for writing a negative review that isn't a pompous and nonsensical as the 1 review. I do think that you could have added another paragraph, maybe fleshed out your points a bit more, but this is still a good review.
I agree with your point that this album is like getting beat up, but for me, that's what makes it so great. It's just so wonderfully intense. The ending of Thaw floors me every time, it's like an exorcism of emotion. I like the band Anaal Nathrakh for the same reason, when vitriol screams it's not just a wimpy rasp on the mic a la alexi laiho, it sounds like he's getting ripped apart in a torture chamber. I like that because I think screaming should be intense. I like intense music, and to me, Jane Doe is the pinnacle of intense music.
and yeah pos'd.

I totally get your point, but I personally don't like it for the same reasons you do like it(funny how
opinions work huh!), so that's why I wrote this review. Thank you!

I think you really miss the point with this style of music. You are doing it all wrong if you feel beaten up by the rage. For me, I sort of channel the anger/whatever emotions through listening to the music. So instead of feeling all beat up and sorry after listening to some pissed shit, I feel cleansed.

i don't think you're getting my take on jane doe either. I was just joking around that the intensity
is like getting beat up, but I really like it for the same reason that you do, namely, the emotion.
I don't feel punished by the music, I feel awe-inspired by it. Please don't tell me i'm listening to
my music "wrong" this is one of my favorite albums man.
