"I'm listening to Cupid's Dead and I'm not sure whether I'm listening to hair metal or progressive thrash."

Actually it's progressive funk. xD

Seriously tho, such a great song.

The music and harmonies are great. Lyrics though, not so much.

"More Than Words" is the quintessential acoustic jam. That and "To Be With You" by Mr. Big.

Goddamn, if Cherone hadn't sucked so damn much this band would've been fucking great.

Cherone is great dude, can't imagine the band without him.

Btw you should check out Mourning Widows if you don't like Cherone. It's like a more underground version of Extreme with Bettencourt on vocals.

Haha! I was jamming with Extreme cos I randomly tuned my guitar to Eb, and Nuno and Badger just never cease to amaze me. They carried the band despite Cherone. I mean, think about it: Cherone damn near ruined Eddie Van Halen because he sucks so much.

It's not Cherone' s fault VH III sucks imo, the band reached an all-time-low back then. But I can enjoy even that one in parts tbh :] However, I really think Cherone is brilliant on Waiting for the Punchline.

And totally agreed, Nuno, Pat and Paul (and Mangini on Punchline) are tight af. If you enjoy Nuno' s guitarwork I strongly recommend to check out Mourning Widows.

Haha! Yeah, I know I'm being too hard on Cherone, but him and whoever the hell the original drummer for the band was just aren't up to the same level. I mean, everyone who's heard of Nuno knows what he's capable of, but Badger reminds me Ginger Rogers, cos just like she had to do everything Fred Astaire was doing backwards and in heels, he had to do most of what Nuno was doing, but on the bass, and while hitting those high harmonies. Damn.

I'll check Mourning Widows. Isn't that the band Nuno was in with his nephew or something?

It's hard to be on the same level as Nuno and Pat, almost impossible... The runs they play along are insane. One of my greatest and hardest achievements on bass was to play Cupid's Dead from beginning to end, so much fun. But I think Paul Geary (the original drummer) and Cherone are amazing and capable musicians as well. Paul's performance on Punchline is outstanding.

And yes, Donovan plays bass on MW and is Nuno' s nephew indeed. Hope you'll enjoy em, their 2nd album is among my all time favs.

That's impressive! Cupid's Dead is one of my favourite songs of all time I've been longing to cover it live, but none of my bassists have ever gotten through the whole song. I just sat down and learned the solo to Get The Funk Out today, and I'm quite impressed with myself.

I'll start with the second album. It sounds pretty great.

Very nice, that's a tough one for sure! And a Nuno classic, kudos for taming that beast :] And yeah, Cupid' s Dead is an amazing track and knowing it totally by heart def helped in learning it. My brother was pretty great in nailing all of the guitar parts. Fun times...

Let me know what you think about MW when you get on to it.

This has some awsome instrumental passages

So sad that Cherone's vocals are "generic glam metal vocals"

I agree that he has nothing to do with Van Halen's downhill tho

Before the first iteration of my current band broke up we'd gotten the song sorted out with the drummer the other guitarist and myself, with me and the other guitarist doing harmonies during the breakdown. We thought it sounded pretty rad and were waiting for the bassist to learn the whole thing so we could start jamming it in earnest and put it into the live set. Then life happened...

I'm jamming furnished souls right now. So far so good. First 2 songs kick ass. It's kind of a shame how much hate Extreme got during the '90s because Nuno kind of has the perfect voice for '90s rock.

“Then life happened...“

Haha yeah, that happens to most bands I guess. Same goes for our first line up. And agreed, I totally dig Nuno' s vocals on all his projects.

“So sad that Cherone's vocals are "generic glam metal vocals"“

I always enjoyed the max out of Cherone' s vocals. Never doubted him in the slightest. His voice and style fits perfectly in Extreme.

I liked Furnished Souls, but I think I like Schizophonic more...

Glad you enjoyed it. And Schizophonic rules hard, totally agreed. I think Nuno played almost everything on it himself... However, I prefer Furnished Souls by quite a bit.

You also might check out DramaGods and Population 1 if you're still in Nuno mood, both are also great projects.
