lmao from what i've seen, people see the word being used online and just assimilate it without knowing much about its history at all -- english in my country is not advanced enough for most to just google stuff in english explaining it, and only recently have articles and youtube vids come out of people explaining it in spanish. also, a lot of people just learn for practical uses and just adopt words they come across without researching even with the tools they have

*: my country is a special case tho, history is a class that's often seen as less important, we have to fit all of our country's history into the time allotted, right wing politicians have pushed to remove 'negative' content (i.e. showing my country in a negative light) from the curriculum, and slavery was abolished early in the formal creation of the nation
