I mean it’s understandable why you don’t tbh. It’s kinda drawn out lol.

It’s not so much that it’s drawn out, just that it’s unjustifiably so. I think if they had more fast segments to act as a payoff for build-ups it’d be more entertaining, but that rarely happens and they fall back on generic post-metal riffs instead.

Not that I’m coming in here just to shit on a hyped album, I really did look forward to listening to this based on the reception but it’s just not doing it for me : (

See I disagree with that part. I think all the build ups work. I can see how they’d get tiresome though for sure.

I did want you to like it, Jester! Can’t win them all, though.

@Jester: I may have misunderstood your earlier comment, as far as post-metal is concerned there is indeed a big difference between the top-end & the next tier down, I just don’t think it’s necessarily exclusive to post-metal, if that makes sense. There’s also plenty of post-metal that sits somewhere in that ‘good but not remarkable’ area, much like other genres. The kind of stuff I’m happy to listen to but rarely revisit.

I get what you mean, post-metal is just one of those genres for me where the gap between the bands I do and don’t like is pretty big.

My problem with this album isn’t that it incorporates post-metal, moreso that it does it in a lackluster fashion. But seeing as it’s a genre I’m very picky with in general, the album may have been doomed from the start

Nobody, I mean nobody bad mouths post metal like this. I will fight until you have taken away my 500+ albums of post metal.

I’m sure there is more post-metal I would like but it takes something pretty special. My faves are Neurosis, Isis and the first few Rosetta albums, haven’t really cared about them since they put out Quintessential Ephemera

Fall of Efrafa are essential post-metal, even if only their 3rd & final release strictly satisfies that criteria.

Drumming and atmo are superb here...not digging the melodic vocals, not even a bit...not the vocals per se, but in terms of the songwriting...feels somewhat dated emo idk...not feeling it. The rest is very Cult of Luna/ The Ocean post. cool stuff.

Vocals are beautiful, they have such a raw tone to them. Just nothing but the emotion, exposed. Perhaps that's not for everyone, but I really enjoy how genuine they are presented.
