Review Summary: A relatively unknown but extremely influential release in the metalcore genre.

Right to the review:

Throughout the release the guitar players weave beautiful flowing melodies with the brutality of breakdowns and dissonant chords. While the album does have its fair share of breakdowns they are very fresh and seem to fit perfectly unlike the one imitated by the “frontrunners” of today’s metalcore/hardcore scene. The album begins with A Farewell To A Perfect Score (also off their first EP), which is arguably the band’s signature song. A simple drum fill starts the song with the famous chord riff soon after. The song seems relentless for almost the first half; the melodies are beautiful yet played with such intensity, never stopping for a break. Near the end of the song 7A7P showcases their softer side with a short clean interlude and put the madness to a quick halt.

The next two tracks, Someday and The Commentator’s Despair follow along the same lines as the first track but there is notably less emphasis on melody. While it’s still obviously present, these seem to be the heaviest tracks off the release. Following the aforementioned tracks comes The Afternoon. The Afternoon is the softest track on the album, it is simply a short acoustic piece. After much thought I realized that this could be a precursor to another element in modern metalcore releases: the clean interlude. It’s quite evident that bands such as All Shall Perish and Sea of Treachery have taken this idea to heart as have numerous others, and small yet noticeable influence of 7A7P.

After several more face melting tracks comes the title track, Jhazmyne’s Lullabye. Quite an odd but welcome way to end the album. Much like The Afternoon the title track exhibits the band at their softer and more emotional. Jhazmyne’s Lullabye is a lovely piano piece clocking in at just under five minutes. Words cannot express the feelings this song conveys but the closest I could would be to a song playing through your mind as you reminisce about the simpler times of one’s innocent childhood.

To put it simply, the influence this album had on today’s music scene is undeniable. If you’re a fan of Misery Signals(basically the direct continuation of 7A7P), Dead To Fall, or just heavy music in general then I strongly recommend this album. The only noticeable flaw in this record is the monotone vocals which are easily overlooked when coupled with the groundbreaking music.

Recommended Tracks:
-A Farewell To A Perfect Score
-The Commentator's Despair
-Jhazmyne's Lullabye

One of metalcore's most defining albums, right next to Botch- We Are The Romans....

As your first, my advice is to avoid first person, so next time no "I"s. Also the first paragraph, it's not bad to go into history, and when you're not then saying that you're not is pointless.

After much thought I realized that this could be a precursor to another element in modern metalcore releases: the clean interlude. It’s quite evident that bands such as All Shall Perish and Sea of Treachery have taken this idea to heart

That's real obvious. Way before those bands has that been used. Killswitch, Shadows Fall, All That Remains, hell after a year when this came out later metalcore bands started to use that "clean interlude" thing. Even before this band, other earlier metalcore bands had it.

Good review for a first, and I gotta say that I love this album so much, nothing wrong with this. For those that complain about the vocals or the production, man up and take it.

Hate the production on this album. Pretty good, though. Oh and the clean interlude thing was happening way before this. There was a stage where every metalcore album had an acoustic track, particularly in the european scene.

yeah i love this album too. Production is meh, the vocals aren't bad or anything. Just wished he would've changed it up a little more. What do you guys think of the recommended albums?

Listen to Skycamefalling's "10.21" and Shai Hulud's "That Within Blood Ill-Tempered" for starters.

Another band that is kinda considered classic along with 7A7P is Botch, they play metallic hardcore/mathcore. Listen to their CD "We Came As Romans".

@ffs:

@fr33lord: This is awesome, but if you're looking for over the top musicianship, I'd say Dillinger Escape Plan, Botch and

Starkweather are better for that.

@ghetto: As others have stated, I don't think the intro part is needed, but decent review other than that. Looking

forward to more reviews. I KNOW YOU'LL MAKE IT!
