They went from the perfectly polished sound of Ashes Against the Grain to the unquantized analog tape recordings of Marrow. I personally loved the contrast but could see why people would be like, wtf is this

it's not that harshly produced

nah it's definitely not the harsh prod. this is pretty tame for bm standards

Album Rating: 4.2
this isn't abrasive or whatever, it's just fuckin dense
which makes it a headfuck to process when more than like 2 Things are happening
like at the start of the record when it all kicks off
it is a lot
but I much prefer the acoustic sounds in this mix than the wimpy neofolk shit on the Mantle. Agalloch sound better with a bit o weight, them pallid fucks

well honestly I don't want any bad blood so I'll refrain from going into too much detail, as even this is completely subjective opinion but this is the one that made me have to speak up about it:
"but I much prefer the acoustic sounds in this mix than the wimpy neofolk shit on the Mantle."
I realised in the meanwhile I get nothing for calling people out about their shit takes, as we all have them, all love and wells

the majority of Agalloch fans enjoy that element, I feel like it's very evident by the ratings and popularity of The Mantle alone

"I get nothing for calling people out about their shit takes"
uh yes you do, please do it all the time!!
and ig the Mantle probably still is the best thing ever if your favourite poets peaked in high school, your fav chord progression is Em to Am on infinite loop, and you still get a nostalgic rush from remembering that one time you came face to face with the spirit of winter when your heater broke and you had to wear socks in bed omg nature is real
like, it's a good album and i still enjoy probably more than half of it, but hot damn after a certain amount of years you can't not stamp a certain amount of guilty pleasure status over that boi

hot take, suggesting people who like a thing are a certain way maybe says more about you than them
