This is the ONLY album i have ever heard that i think is flawless.

the album doesn't have to be "flawless" to warrant a 5

Flawless? probably, but the "problem" is that the Yessongs versions of all three songs are even greater - a minor flaw though ;)

If there has ever been a truly flawless album, this is in the running. But "flawlessness" is impossible in any art form. There will always be some tiny, miniscule change that you would wish to make.
But flawless=/=best. Flawless means that there is nothing to criticize. There have been albums with more flaws that are better because they're better overall. But very few albums have ever been better than this one.
My favorite song here is actually "And You and I" just because of the indescribable climax of Eclipse.

really fun review to read, almost as fun as it is to listen to the album. Couldn't agree with your insights more (right down to the comment aboot Echoes). I thank this sweet earth every day that this music exists.
btw, nice line: "A sonic roller coaster through instrumental and vocal mastery" ...quite worthy of the album

i'd probably like this.
my dad's first concert was yes. haha.

This album is truly the epidemy of 70s progressive rock, with absolutely brilliant instrumentation spread over its three epic tracks.

how can you not like this album.... or revolver for that matter....

it's ho-hum to my ears, but still a step above the popped-out prog sound of fragile - white album's the only beatles album i can enjoy somewhat thoroughly.

but, purvis, they are both brilliant pieces of music, both instrumentally and lyrically. that makes them above average.

revolver is kinda overrated. i mean rigby is the only real brilliant track. however this album is pure bliss.

if they're both truly brilliant, above-average pieces of music, then i must be missing something. maybe it'll take another five years before their merit hits me. until then, i'll get my instrumental brilliance from zappa and my lyrical brilliance from frodus.

frodus? lyrics? really? zappa has some pretty good instrumentals, but they dont compare to the crazy progginess of YES

i don't really see yes as that crazy prog-wise - they attempt to aim to the heights that 21st century schizoid man laid down but never reach it in my eyes... the jazz that inspires them is more interesting to me - i like their album art though.
zappa's noise just simply captivates me more, technical merit aside, and nothing has opened my eyes more than the orwellian songwriting of frodus - but each to his own.

hahahahha this, trying to reach the heights of 21st century schizoid man? both this album and that song are incomparable, simply because they sound phenomenally different. listen to this more, you'll get it. first time i heard it i was incredibly confused and i'm not sure if i enjoyed it, but as i listened more i started to hear more and more insteresting motifs and layers.
