after being absolutely blown away by the fall be kind ep i've been waiting for something, anything! from animal collective. although this album doesn't promise to be the next ac lp it definitely helps fill the void at least for me.

wonderful review. =]

I don't think I like how minimal this is. It's melodies aren't strong enough to support it and it's all a bit aimless.

it all depends on my mood. sometimes i love how austere the individual songs are, other times i hate it.

I agree that some of the melodies are weak, but for me the production really saves some of the lackluster songwriting.

so i guess downer isn't going to review this after all

oh and @cbmartinez some of the vocal melodies are closer to strawberry, but nothing else really sounds reminiscent of it.

Yeah, I really don't see how this is catchy, especially in comparison to that album.

not when you didn't even mention "cemeteries"!

interesting comparison to Burial though. On what few lackluster tracks there are(mainly the opener and imo 3 umbrellas) the problem is that the textures aren't captivating enough to make up for the loose vocal melodies, I end up getting lost in the songs. however everything really flows for me after "oliver twist" and the album picks up afterwards. the last three outings in particular sound gorgeous.

@planewreck cant agree anymore

I would say its a duller / slower paced version of alot of ACs stuff, not meaning its bad, i actually think the beat of alot of these songs like 3 umbrellas and lucky 1 are quiet interesting, and if not better.

Although the only song on the entire album i dont like would have to be cemeteries.. it just doesnt have the flow i like in this type of music.

yeah but it's not like an overbearing, sort of bemusing lost, it's more of an underwhelming, ehhh lost.

actually "laughing hieroglyphic" is probably the former. just wish it was trimmed down a minute or so. however from oliver twist to cemeteries is where the album really peaks with its atmosphere and the songs are all watery, sort of dark tracks. then "heads hammock"'s loud percussion kind of ruins that vibe, though the track is great in its own right.

regardless as a whole listen it bores occasionally, though the production and effects leave me with ultimately good vibes. "Lucky 1" ends it on a nice hook.
