like i said, if you even paid attention beyond the first sentence of that comment, interpretation of lyrics varies depending on the listener. read next time.

really? because what i get is "mainstreamers suck" oh well, i guess it's just an opinion, or maybe different interpretations of the lyrics, i'll leave that to you. but in any case, i think i'm right, you think you're right, so lets drop this because it will never end.

Oh fuck you. At least I actually read all the lyrics, know about the band's history, am familiar with their writing style, and put some serious thought into my arguments.

I do not argue anything unless I know I can back it up. Which is more than can be said of you. Just admit that you're unable to back up this bullshit argument of yours.

^just because something is popular does not mean it isn't trash.

Who the hell was trying to imply otherwise? That would be like me accusing you of saying in that statement that all things popular automatically suck.

What a miserable cop-out. Did you actually think I would buy that crap? This Message Edited On 05.06.06

steerpike, you are have crossed a line. i have read the lyrics and they came across differently for me than they did for you. i have a (albeit vague) familarity with the bands history, and i understand their writing style. i back up my arguements with what i believe to be true, and you would see that if you werent so self absorbed.

Actually, come to think of it, I don't know what the hell Jacaranda was trying to say.

Okay, now we're getting somewhere. Quote and explain to me the passages of the song American Idiot which should so obviously showcase to me, the average layman, Green Day's seeting, violent hatred and disdain for all things mainstream.

IMO, the entire song. if lyrics are interpreted differently by each listener, how can anything in a song be obvious? take "stay together for the kids" by blink 182, did you know right off the bat that the song was about tom's immediate family falling apart?

Just copy and paste the text and put (quote) at the beginning and (/quote) at the end. Just replace () with []

Jacaranda, i know when i'm wrong, which is something that you might not know yourself. i'd advise you to stay out of this because it will only escalate if more people get involved

Bad argument, bad example. First off that song you listed doesn't work. Look at the title and consider Blink's style. That's like saying, "I bet you can't guess what Iron Maiden's song 'The Assassin' is about!"

Furthermore, that's bullshit to just say "the entire song." No. Negative. Nyet. You want a real argument? Try this on for size:

And can you hear the sound of hysteria?

Third line, first verse. Anyone who has watched the news can tell you that in the last generation, a lot of news channels have been scaring the crap out of their viewers to keep them watching. When September 11th hit, the entire nation freaked out and stayed glued to the tube in order to figure out how to avoid getting killed.

Or so they thought.

Welcome to a new kind of tension.
All across the alien nation.
Where everything isn't meant to be okay.

First three lines of the chorus. Again, the media communicates a climate of fear, tension, across a nation which at this point is terrified of its own neighborhood. A proverbial alien nation. Are you familiar with the Mean Scary World theory of communication? I can pull up an article on it for you if you like.

In other words, nothing is okay in this climate of the Mean Scary World.

Well maybe I'm the faggot America.
I'm not a part of a redneck agenda.
Now everybody do the propaganda.
And sing along to the age of paranoia.

Second verse. Faggot America is most likely a reference to the fact that once people started getting lucid again, they were threatened with the collapse of society if gays got married. And the rednecks, fundies, sex nazis, and moral reactionaries bough it hook, line, and sinker.

Now, not only is the news promoting a climate of fear against foreign terrorists and local gangbangers, but innocent bystanders who just happen to be different. An age of paranoia. This Message Edited On 05.06.06

We're just trying to understand where the hell you got the "Green day hates mainstreamers" thing. Its not like the lyrics are that difficult to understand. I could understand how you could interpret Nirvana's "heart-shaped box" differently, but not this.

I've left the initial discussion, but deleted the character catcalls and silly secondary arguments. No one is getting banned obviously, just try to chill out and don't bring people's character into question and get into petty namecalling when it has nothing to do with the matter at hand.

5???
How can you give an album such as this a five.. A 3.5 maybe at most but not a 5...
What makes an album good is its livability.. This album unfortunately does not have this characteristic.. It just gets too old, too quickly.. After a few listens to the singles and that's it... It's all boring after that..

I'd reconsider that remark. There are plenty of albums which I cannot listen to ever again, but I'd still give a 5 (Nevermind?...Piper at the Gates of Dawn?)

Livability? You mean I can live in an album? Holy shit, why don't people tell me these things.

This album is way overrated, to me, I have felt as if the true Green Day has died. But the thing that you have to remember is that Green Day likes money. A lot.

p.s.(its a good thing that they made a greatest hits album when the were still at their best
