I don't know why people are even worried about this whole 'sell-out' bullshit to start with.
I do think Green Day changed their style with this album, to be honest. What I was trying to say was (here I go again), that this new style has just made them even more accessable, if you get what I'm on about. They probably didn't think about the whole sell-out phenomona when making this album, the mainstream just latched onto it.
Tis is what I was trying to say in my original comment, but certain people took it the wrong way.

fondler, i hate this album as a whole, its terrible, its not even good in any way. people assume that i will hate a band because of their popularity or their looks, but if the music is good, i dont care how popular a band is, just look at blink 182, they are almost as popular as green day, and i love blink. and steerpike, if they didn't like how the label is promoting them, then they could easily drop the label. if green day harbors such a hatred for mainstreamers and the media as a whole, they could easily switch labels. green day loves the attention and thats all there is to it.

I am now convinced that you are unable to distinguish between the band and their idiot fans making claims that the band themselves never said.

I never once said that Green Day don't enjoy the attention and obvious success that comes with it. But apparently, you are speaking a bizarre dialect where-

Green Day never said that. You're thinking of their idiot fans.

-actually means-

Green Day hate teh mainstream!!!!11!! they r teh hardcore and they r4ge again teh mach1n!!!!!!11!!!!!!!11!!!eleven

Why, I cannot possibly understand. Perhaps you simply just want to be right. Perhaps you just are not a good reader. I don't know. But whatever it is, stop doing it.This Message Edited On 05.05.06

So, lynch Steerpike? Because he didn't quote anyone, you know you can make quote boxes without actually quoting.

purely for entertainment purposes, apparently. iluvatar, im pretty sure he meant the second quote, which i never wrote, or typed, in this case. steerpike, if green day dont hate the mainstream, yet they write songs about it, then they are not only hypocrites, they contradict themselves.

And I suppose you can quote volumes of lyrics that prove this point?

Good music (yes I said Green Day were good omg wtf lololol) becomes popular because it is good not because they are going against the norm or saying they are.

"American Idiot" is a fine pop rock song. You need to say more I'm thinking.

Yes, apparently you do.

Because unlike you, I've read the lyrics time and again and it's clear he's talking about two things:

1. The fear-mongering that news networks use to drive up ratings.
2. The utter apathy of the American public who are more interested in who passes the next round of American Idol than who wins the next presidential election. This Message Edited On 05.06.06

really? because what i get is "mainstreamers suck" oh well, i guess it's just an opinion, or maybe different interpretations of the lyrics, i'll leave that to you. but in any case, i think i'm right, you think you're right, so lets drop this because it will never end.

^ where the hell did you get that from. It clearly isn't talking about the "mainstreamers".
