I mean I don’t listen to this for energetic music

I listen to it for like comforting and relatable depression jams

The emotional resignation is kinda a key factor of that?

This album is yet to properly click with me but Helicopter is a genuine masterpiece.

I love Helicopter, but I find it odd that it's the clear favorite of so many people

It's maybe my 5th favorite on here

What do you prefer? For me it’s that wonderful watery nostalgic sound that makes that song so amazing. Not sure it’s my number 1 but it’s certainly top 3. Overall though this is one of those albums where a handful of incredible tracks end up being the majority of why I love it.

Well I have a really close emotional connection to certain Deerhunter songs, so maybe my picks would be odd, but for Halcyon Digest, those consist of Basement Scene, Sailing, and Revival

I'd also put Earthquake above Helicopter, though I wouldn't say I have a connection the same to it as I do my top 3

--Ultimate comfort jam tier--

1. Basement Scene

2. Sailing

3. Revival

--Amazing tier--

4. Earthquake

5. Helicopter

6. He Would Have Laughed

7. Don't Cry

--Great tier--

8. Desire Lines

9. Memory Boy

--Good tier--

10. Fountain Stairs

--Fuck this song, why is there saxophone and a The Strokes vocal filter on my Deerhunter album tier--

11. Coronado

tbh Bradford Cox cuts deeper for me when he sings about his feelings than maybe any other artist I've heard, so I guess I tend to love the personal songs the most

Helicopter is amazing, but it's about someone else, not himself, so it doesn't have the same effect even if it's musically and thematically wonderful (well it's actually thematically depressing as fuck, but you get what i mean)

“Earthquake” and “helicopter” are the best and are sonically linked in my mind. Also like Revival and Sailing and I guess Coronado (which really is “lay lady lay,” which I like). “Desire Lines” is a worse “nothing ever happened” with a bad vocal performance, and “he would have laughed” is overrated too

Not big on Lockett Pundt's vocal, eh Sona?

Tbh if this didn't have Coronado on it, it'd be a hard 5

It’s funny cuz I remember liking some of the lotus plaza material. I guess his vocal performance on “neither of us, uncertainly” is a little more to my taste but less expressive, but that’s also probably the worst song on microcastle (?)

Why is the microcastle opener called “cover me slowy” on Spotify god that’s funny

I thought monomania was an excellent rough edged 180 degree turn from this but fading frontier only had one great song that is kind of half-boring (“breaker”) and the 2019 album didn’t really hit at all

My fave Deerhunter song is one of thew few Pundt-led songs (Agoraphobia) so I honestly like his vocals quite a lot, though I suppose Cox's are ultimately better

Monomania is their worst album by a fair margin
