Coeur D' Alene is still far and away my favorite. Every time I listen to it I have to go back and play it again when it's done.
And Blackbird will reach a 4. It's getting closer and closer.

"Alter Bridge is a beacon of hope in a sea of debauchery"
I'm gonna have them put that on my tombstone when I die.

Alter Bridge can be repetitive at times, one may not like Myle's voice, but certainely this band isn't overated.

I really like this ablum, but I have to notice 1 thing:
Some tracks(most notably "Breathe Again") just sound way too simple and don't amaze me in any way, while others(e.g. "Fallout") are really memorable and impressive. This contrast makes it really hard to listen to the album as a whole.
overall, the music is different from Blackbird. Sure, its still hard rock/alternative metal/whatever, but the idea of a lose concept is really shinig through.

Just bought this album last week. Never gave Alter Bridge a listen before, but I am definitely impressed. Excellent album, and a fantastic review!

I may be well in the minority, but I have a soft spot for 'I Know It Hurts'.
The whole may be less than the sum of its parts when it comes to Alter Bridge's 3rd LP 'AB III', but it's still another great release. A darker beast than its 2 predecessors, the lack of immediacy is initially concerning, but ultimately gives decent replay value. However, while consistent, the main issue with 'AB III' is that at 66 minutes, it is far too long & a bit of a chore to get through in one sitting. Thankfully, the album is technically accomplished & pretty much every track builds to a satisfying conclusion... But why did it have to be so darn long? Recommended Tracks: Isolation, Make It Right, Coeur d'Alene & I Know it Hurts.

Fair enough on the length, if I wasn't such a big fan I'd probably say the same thing. And that song is definitely not one of the weakest for me and it's one of their catchiest, so no surprise that it was a highlight for you. It probably would land around 7th or so for me I think.

Yep, like I said in the comments to their other 2 albums, they are at their best when they include some of "The Catchy".

my only gripe about this album is the length, had they cut it down to 12-13ish and gotten rid of the weakest tracks this would have been so much stronger

@Davey: I think that's a big reason why some people didn't like this one as much. You have to dig the
more brooding atmosphere on this which does sacrifice a bit of the previous catchiness.
I would love this album even more if all the ballads were gone but realistically that was never going
to happen after how (deservedly) popular Watch Over You was among fans.

"the main issue with 'AB III' is that at 66 minutes, it is far too long & a bit of a chore to get through in one sitting"
My copy is 74 minutes (the US version has "Zero" and "Home" tacked on at the end)
"What Dylan, you didn't hear that chugs?"
lol. This is pretty heavy for mainstream hard rock, but idk about full-blown metal
