Fourth dude I watched some queen doco where the guys said on We Will Rock You that they wanted to create a song that a whole arena can participate in with the stomp stomp clap
so I guess they wanted it to be a huge hit, and after getting into the mainstream's eye with Night at the Opera they probably knew it was going to get some sort of attention

well they completely re-wrote the song to make it arena friendly!
you can look up the original "fast" version on youtube, which they regularly played during their 70's concerts. I prefer it to be honest

The original version is definitely sweet and I might prefer it too because it's more like a real song. I wonder if I prefer it because I've listened to this album's version a million times though.

I think the original just has more substance as a song

Great review but I disagree with you on Who Needs You. The only song I really don't like on this album is Get Down, Get Low. Melancholy Blues is okay, I liked it a lot more this time around.

Opens with 3 amazing tracks, the rest is okay.

This and ADATR would have made an incredible double album, the straight forward anthemic rock of News mixed with the balladry and songwriting of Races, man that probably would be hailed as a masterpiece instead of each being seen as a minor step down from Opera.
Killer album. Fight From the Inside rips, would sound at home on an early Cheap Trick record.

This is legit Queen's best straight up rock record. Not their best record, but the one that rocks the fucking hardest. Sheer Heart Attack, Fight From the Inside, the hits...man this is a great album.

Two stinkers in a row. Curious to see if I end up liking anything these guys release post-A Night at the Opera

This album might be perfect. Didn't think of it that way before, but it's just so damn good

All Dead, All Dead is such a beautiful ballad

That album cover is the thing of nightmares. Regardless, one of my favourite Queen albums! Probably one of the most consistent ones too. All Dead, All Dead and Spread Your Wings are so good.

There are many many great tunes here. Always been a fan of the closer too

There's a My Chemical Romance song which sounds just like Spread Your Wings, and I can't put my finger on which one... Any ideas?

Great album. Surprised Spread Your Wings and It's Late aren't bigger hits amongst their discography tbh. The run from Fight From the Inside to Get Down, Make Love does hurt the album a bit imo, although neither are bad tracks at all.
