Might as well check it out. Too Much is pretty accessible, maybe give that song a try first?

ya know how Sufjan "gave up on the album" as art or whatever last year, to me this is Sufjan also

giving up on songs. the opening hook of Impossible Soul is sweet but then it's kind of like a lost

circus orgy complete with animals and children. a lot of this album is (to me). or a weird montage

taking the listener through a cheery pysch ward like Shutter Island.

why not be more like the National he works with all the time who write SONGS? cause he's proud to

fight you with his music instead of gratify you with it. i think he tries to please the people who

think they've got exquisite tastes, like that old snooty man in Ratatouille.

uh, what makes a song "well-written"? it's really just up to your ears and if you like the sound or not

i shouldn't have implied that. I meant he seems to like dancing around typical song conventions

that music listeners often like, (building and resolving and repeating hooks and refrains etc.

without jarring noises or super saturated harmonies or randomly heading in crazy directions never to

return) stuff that seems to be a part of the normal singer-songwriter's playbook and is likely part

of what makes the National-structure-type-music so pleasurable to me. Like if you take a

songwriting

class I bet they'd teach you stuff Sufjan unlearns with his music, for whatever reason.

Creativity's awesome but depending on what you do I think it you can hurt the aesthetic. But I dont

know, I loved All Delighted People.

natey you are off the deep end

says the one comparing Soofy to Denethor, Steward of Gondor
