Okay, I see where you're coming from. Personally, I think a lot of people bought into Em because they like the idea of saying 'fuck the system, dawg' - or whatever- but that's as far as their own personal statement goes. Not many people have the ability to really open their mind to straying from the norm, the well trod path or what have you, and to be fair why should they? It's the easy thing to do. What else can one do? We're all just tiny pieces in a corrupt, consumerist environment where we are given the illusion that we make our own choices and path but do we really? Em says 'fuck this'. His fans say 'fuck that'. But what can any of us really do? We're all part of that fucked up system man - Em and all. The world's changing but people aren't really - just the way they're expected to present themselves. This album struck a chord with the public because they wanted to relate, [can relate] with Em and the shit he spits about, hence his popularity despite his going against the grain in pop at the time.

And others bought it because it was catchy.
