"Others think it was a big dip in quality for the band."
i thought for most fans that was chase this light. honestly i never jam this band outside of clarity, although futures and static prevails are still solid jams. then there's the odd track here and there that i really like, like gotta be somebody's blues or the t/t on this

Minty — I’ve been “studying” up on this band more or less here since I’ve become obsessed with Clarity. Your encapsulation pretty perfectly wraps up what I’ve gathered. Thanks so much man. When I go through bands discogs, I tend to read through all the threads on each album as i listen to them. So with each album, I’ll definitely drop my thoughts.
Love your passion man! We’ll touch base with each album as I listen.

T/t is top 3 JEW for sure but the whole album is beautiful. I never see much love for "Artist Needs an Audience," though, it's a jam.

By the way, there'll be a new single on Monday called All the Way (Stay). Get hype
Don’t you worry, the hype is real and going nowhere

Invented is the only album I never really got into. That’s not to say it’s a bad album or anything, it just didn’t captivate me as much as the rest. Some amazing songs on here though.

Liking but not loving this after two listens. Opener, closer, Movielike, t/t and Cut stand out. That said, I can just tell this is a grower. I can see it becoming one of my favorite JEW albums. We’ll see.

Would you be at all tempted to write a review of each album when you've heard them all? Would love to read them if so.

Hmm interesting proposition. Never written a review here. I’ll think about it for sure.

Would you look at that, I've handed another JEW album a 5. This is their most emotionally moving, imo. From "Stop" to the t/t is one emotional rollercoaster, then there are all of the charming creative choices, the out-of-left-field moments that are equal measures fun and touching. It's all so good.

Littlething -> Cut fucks me up every time

I’m giving this a tentative 3.5 but it could grow to a 4. Only JEW albums I’ve loved so far are Clarity and Futures. All the others are good to very good though.

At the rate you're going you might be able to get on board with the new album hype and discussions the day it releases (next friday)

Minty — it’s looking that way man. But if I miss the release day, I’m not
Rushing to it. May happen though.

Had to bump up to a 4. This is definitely their grow-iest album so far.
Even though Action Needs an Audience isn’t a bad song (I don’t think it’s all that good either), its placement on the track list feels so incredibly random and intrusive. I understand that it’s preceded and followed by some pretty low key and ballad-y songs it’s supposed to serve as something of an energetic spike to the album’s flow, it just feels awkward.
I think Stop-Littlething-Cut going directly into Invented-Mixtape would’ve perfect. This album is definitely backended, though there are certainly some good songs in the first half too.

I agree about Action. Have you heard the version that Jim sung live before Tom took over singing duties for the song? I liked it a lot more.

I'm honestly very pleasantly surprised that you dig this album and chase. I thought after your bleed American comments there was no way you'd like chase. And being a big clarity fan I thought you might not take to the glossier production of this one. But it goes to show everyone's experiences with this band are different. This album is probably their most divisive.

Yeah I did actually prefer that one. I just feel like it would fit better towards the front, like after Evidence, after Higher Devotion or after Coffee and Cigarettes. Third option feels best.

Yeah man, I’ve liked them all (to varying degrees). This is feeling like my third favorite, after Clarity and Futures. I guess I like all the one word title JEW albums ha.
