When I say 'more interested' I'm factoring in potential growth / regression into the equation, as apart from Eld my ratings don't really reflect this change yet
...thinking about it, if you sat me down with some Enslaved this evening (maybe I will), then I certainly wouldn't reach for this one immediately (it would most likely be Eld, Isa or Below The Lights as things stand).
Based on what you said ^ Mardraum is a priority check then, it WAS next on my list!
I need to re-check Ruun. Vertebrae was never my fave either.

Oh yeah, I think if you like both Isa/Lights era and Eld era Enslaved then Mardraum will very much work for you. It's a crazy record. Messy, fast paced, chaotic: all in a good way.
Ruun only recently clicked for me. I like it, but it's like you said, I'd pick other albums over it on most occasions if I'd want to hear Enslaved.

you think? perfect opening track doing a ton of work dominating my memories of this album which don't always hold up. has the usual maker's marks for better or worse in whole

A flaawlessly executed technical exercise of an album in cvlt genre, where many long time listeners would have wanted it to be done in a way more gritty manner.
The beacon is a amazing.

"Also also a 2.0!!!? I must revisit this. But maybe it indeed is where I lost interest in them, post-Isa, with Ruun still being enjoyable but Vertebrae and this one not doing it for me. Hmmmm, something to look into 🤔"
Hmmmm, sadly, I still kind of agree with past me on this. This is so much more streamlined, feels more like one massive/homogenous sound (such as here https://youtu.be/2rbxvQoNE4w?si=ZrifSDiO4H3qZABC and here https://youtu.be/2rbxvQoNE4w?si=CFYATWSJ0d5b8gVV&t=384 for instance) whereas the ones before this (and especially before Ruun) are way more diverse sounding. Don't really know how to better put it into words. This just doesn't really do anything for me, it just flows by without impact.
Weird isn't it!
Also the cleans start to annoy me quickly here.

Yeah strange isn't it! Yet this happens time and time again when I try this one.
Something about the sound they went for here (and on subsequent releases) is just really off-putting to me. Maybe the way they added an orchestra (? or similar sounding backwashes ?) to their sound? Ultra love their riffs on previous albums, but here they sound like 'one big sound', I can't really express it better than that I'm afraid.
Sooooorrryyyyyyy, going back to Ruuuuun now!

It issssss! Really enjoying that one at the moment.
Maybe that's my key to Enslaved. One album at a time. Not rush things. It only recently clicked after all.

Nice!
Mid-era Enslaved is where it's at for me, with Mardraum/Isa being my two faves and the stuff in between and right after being super goooood as well.

Best Enslaved along with Isa and Ritiir in my book.
Album shirt is amazing too (still rocking it, barely lost any color). Back print having the members faces in a circle, sun like form. Very Pink Floyd-ian

RIITIIR owns this on every level, this to me feels very overrated, a mid-tier release for Enslaved
This coming from a new fan, hopped on the wagon when Heimdal dropped
