(CHILDREN OF) GOD TIER: New Mind; Like a Drug (Sha La La La); Beautiful Child

TOP TIER: In My Garden; Blood & Honey; You're Not Real, Girl; Blind Love

MID TIER: Our Love Lies; Blackmail; Children of God

LOW TIER: Sex, God, Sex; Real Love; Trust Me

Before anyone bitches about semantics, the tiers are all contextual and I purposely tried to equally distribute them across tiers. Meaning, in this particular case, I still like the Low tier songs in a vacuum, they just happen to be the weakest on this album (imo).

Swans goat.

Sex, God, Sex is as good as like a Drug, I honestly think that New Mind is one of their weakest openers tho maybe, but that's not saying too much when you consider songs like Lunacy, I Was a Prisoner In Your Skull, Better Than You, In, etc.

In retrospect, yes, this album ended up being more of a transitional work in context, but it baffles me Gira never pushed this sound further, at least for another album or two. It really is a sweet spot between dissonance and melody, groove and atmosphere. Doesn’t surprise me Parsons went on to play in Godflesh though - his performance is almost uncannily machinelike on some tracks.

Also haven’t listened to this in at least 14 years but damn it holds up. Possibly my favourite pre-reunion album, tied with Filth.

Blackmail is beautiful. My favorite on here together with New Mind and the title track

Don't think this album meanders at all lol, if anything I find these tracks overly bitesize. You're Not Real Girl and Trust Me are both excellent, should dip back into it again
