This is definitely really cool stuff, you can feel the passion all the way through, and the performances are all great, but it’s also kind of a mess. I guess that’s part of the appeal but for me personally to elevate it to the classic/near-classic level the songwriting would have needed to “gel” a bit more frequently than it does. As is, I find this somewhat less than the sum of its parts (that said, the opener and closer are both really powerful tracks where the elements all come together quite convincingly, and these somewhat make up for the rest of this). Mystic Sisters improves on this on that front; the songwriting feels much more developed to me on that, and if it lacks the same level of bursting youthful creative energy, the more mature songwriting more than makes up for it.
