That's what I like about it. This is a nice take on dxc and was very fresh when it came out. I know lots of people love their new stuff, but I wish the band had expanded on this sound rather than them moving into neutered prog metalcore.

tbh you make it sound like its a binary choice

how about no moderncore elements at all, be they dx or mx? surely that's also an option

yea its not like i enjoy suffocation, converge, cryptopsy, 7a7p or countless other bands that have employed them right

its just their poor usage in derivative songwriting that gets to me

I totally get that. I just think that of all the bands of the "moderncore" style as you put it (I like that, actually), this band did it the best, hands down. The breakdowns, or really any of the riffs, never get tiring to me no matter how often I listen.

i'll concede that they've always been among the very few of this kind that i've tolerated and found to have actual potential. but this album has always felt to me like it could have been so much better

haven't heard their newer stuff so i can't speak to that

honestly though, this one might be due for a re-listen

Oh man disagreed hard. This is one of the only bands to perform this style crazily well but Clairvoyant is my absolute fav by them. Just too underrated.

Best deathcore ever composed. Sadly, it will remain that way since nobody is bothering to innovate. Hell, the genre as a whole seems to have slipped out of prominence. Strange when you consider metalcore, which had similar hate, is trying to make a resurgence in the old-school style or adapting to technical/proggy styles. Deathcore just never went anywhere and faded.

All the greats have pretty much gone inactive or jumped ship. The only one I still have my eye on is Ascariasis, but it sounds like they could be aiming for a change in direction, so there goes that.

If you've never jammed Ascariasis - Ocean of Colour, that's what you should do for the next 26 minutes.
