delayed gratification is a big part of their sound
|

No Green, it's just sonic and structural patterns that you familiarise because of cultural upbringing, which is why people go "WTF" when they hear a piece of music which is completely new. It's also why it's difficult to like that stuff immediately and takes more listens

ahah

Delayed gratification is a pretty cool tactic in music, but the payoff needs be immense or you've just wasted my time.

"cultural upbringing"
so because I was born in America it affects my music taste?
and since you're from the UK it's different?
|
| |
Cultural upbringing meaning the timbres of sound you generally hear in early life. Believe it or not, everything you hear will have an impact on your taste as well as a tiny bit of genetics that i have yet to do any solid research on.
Think of it this way: You heard a bunch of shitty pop songs on the radio when you were 3. You hear them again now and you familiarise with them, however tribal people don't exactly listen to pop in their isolated environments, which is why they get musical pleasure from hitting trees or local instruments or something (bit of a generalisation, i know)

"It Takes Two" and "Choose Your Battles" are two of the best KP songs but they're relegated to bonus tracks on Prism because one's too sad and the other has too good a structure for radio with that excellent ending vamp

The radio singles on Prism are pretty bad.
|

not like the movies probably isn't actually a good song but that G#->C#->F# progression during the chorus (iirc) is really stirring
i love the verses to "dark horse" and the beat, the chorus not so much but eh

"Roar" is bland as shit. "This is How We Do" is an embarrassment. "Unconditional" is remarkable mostly for making a six-syllable word catchy.
|
| |
I hate unconditional so much.

Dark Horse wasn't horrible on first listen, but after hearing it 500 times on the radio it's gotten stale. I actually like the chorus the most on it, verses are too dry
