This seems more my speed too. It's like a nice blend between C&L slower acoustic stuff and more over the top AoA

I'm surprised Seven Swans isn't higher for you sowing, seems to be more in your wheelhouse especially for your love of C&L. The Dress Looks Nice on You and To Be Alone With You are Sufjan classics.

I have it at a 3.5, it was pleasant but a little light-footed even for me, and I don't remember much outside of Dress resonating. I do need to re-listen to all his stuff though. My perspective has changed so much since C&L and I may appreciate his earlier stuff more.

To Be Alone With You is the best song from that record imo.

The closing track is awesome. Suf makes awesome long tracks. His guitar-solo playing stone cold reminds me of Neil Young.

The Owl And the Tanager is one of the very best minimalostic Sufjan songs and every fan of Carrie & Lowell should listen to it

4 year bump just to say C&L really isn't better than this. Even if you remove the classic rock version of the t/t (which rules), this is slightly longer and has twice the meat. Top 3 Sufjan all day

As far as his heftier tracks go
Impossible Soul > Djohariah > All Delighted People > America > Majesty Snowbird > Untitled > Earth

Djohariah is one of his best songs. Just heard this for the first time the other day as it's never really spoken about. really solid EP. It's longer than most albums lol

The gets overshadowed a bit because it came out right before age of adz. Like a week or two before if I remember correctly. I've always felt it is one of his strongest releases
