[Uh, lol, I said he was rising, just 'techinically stagnating'.]

"it's official, Gucci Mane's status in the ice game far surpasses his status in the rap game, which, to be honest, is starting to diminsh, at least in a technical sense."

This reads his status is diminishing not stagnating much less rising, unless i am mistaken.

[You say this like I'm looking for Billboard hit features. I'm pretty damn sure I used 'radio ambition' as if it were a negative trait in the review. Also, I noted his large following.]

Nothing much has changed since last year besides him not having billboard hit singles as he did in '09. So its normal to presume you were referring to having no billboard hits why you would say his status in the rap game is diminishing as all other indications prove the contrary, a large following and it is steadily increasing - not in anyway a sign of diminishing.

[Sure, he's grinding, but his output is shit. Plus, like four of those videos are so insanely low budget (Normal, Long Money, Makin Love To The Money, We Be Steady Mobbin feat. Lil Wayne), one is just stupid (Anti Social), and there's only one cool one.]

The last two mixtapes burrprint 2 HD and Zone 6 had at least 5 album quality material on their and nothing has changed on Jewelry selection - yet this mixtape is shit and not the others?

……………….................................................

'Block party', 'trap talk', 'gross', 'vampire' and 'don't believe that' can easily make his upcoming album.

'Making love to the money' is another song that has seem to grown on many, a song you derided, with a video even people who hate the song love (it got over 3 million views in less than 4 days). Doesn't matter the budget of the video, and for a mixtape song video the quality is as good as many singles from official albums. I mean, lets be honest, how many artists feed the streets with not only mixtape tracks but with videos to accompany then - that's the nature of the game if you want to keep your buzz you have to remain visible.

'Gucci time': the lead single off his upcoming album is an average club-song filler, it has a unique beat that doesn't sound anything like what is currently being played on the radio which is my best guest why it was chosen. Not a bad warm up single.

'First Song Back': Is an ingenious freestyle you come to expect from big gucci - a verbal collage of hood living, flossing and hustling delivered with a conversational like flow - a solid strack

'Electricity': is an uncut, incomplete track, the weakest on the mixtape in my opinion however it provides a behind the scene look at the thought process behind his music - and manages to deliver a few clever lines...

'..and im not dancing yaaall; i ain't fucking with ya girl unless is some head in 'invawlved', i got a hundred fifty karats on the chain good-lawd they say my swag is insane babe im off the waaall..'

'..im in this bitch, im high as shit, fly as fuck and buying crys; drugged-up in a high, nigga i'm acting like you don't exist..'

'stone cold': is the epitome of the pervasive mood of the mixtape, laid back, slick talking with a country drawl… so comfortable on the track that if you aren't accustomed to gucci mane then you will hate the song - but its colorfully witty and resilient

'poltergeist': this song caused quite a stir when it was released as it puts on display the contrasing styles of hip-hop and how its grown, talib deliveres a well structured ryhming scheme complimented with numerous metaphors with a choppy delivery, in direct contrast to organic story telling verses with an unorthodox yet comfortably lazy flowassumed to beat as his own living inside the riddim - agian if your not accustomed to gucci you will hate gucci's verses.

[Moreover, you said his status in the rap game was really high but then talked about "underground grind" which is sort of a contradiction, and really, 26,000+ downloads in the span of five days on just one mixtape site doesn't really constitute underground.]

The mixtape reaction is a good guage of an artists relevance if the artist doesn't have an official album out. Currently his mixtapes are the most anticipated of any rap artist - that says a lot of his status not diminishing. Well Jewelry selection is currently at 50K listens on datpiff.com, 400K views on livemixtapes.com not to mention the many other outlets the mixtape is available for download. The people on worldstarhiphop, datpiff and livemixtapes.com constitutes the online underground music listener demographic the last time i checked.

[If it didn't come through early on in the review, I'm a huge Gucci fan, but I just really don't like his recent output.]

Maybe you don't like his recent output because you keep comparing his latest work with those of his past. There is a danger when reviewing art to compare a body of work with previous works from the artist, it detracts from the fact that most works of art are meant to stand alone and to be evaluated on their own merits.

This body of the work is unlike any of his previous in that it has a distinctive laid back vibe, with mostly groovy beats, with more of a sountrack feel rather than high energy compilation of bangers… and for a mixtape it does carry this 'reclined' theme throughout with exception of 'gucci time' and 'bosses'.

LOL at kweyork making Gucci sound like a totally legit rapper
Which he is not.....
He's overrated and your taking too much of his so called lyrics too seriously
I always liked his selection of beats, but he's a below average rapper
He's like Rick Ross, without that officer crap

Thats you opinion 1MicLight

A lot of people would tend to disagree. Many people appreciate his lyrics because they are street witty. You wont see

many

of those people on computers posting comments though that is why he is bashed online. But his popularity in the

streets and in the clubs (primarily in the south) is as high as its ever been right now

its difficult to listen an album of an artist you don't like or know, so its better to give counterfeit songs of the album to listen. I would recommend - frowney face, trap going crazy, dope boys for the hard shit...... for the more light hearted good songs off that mixtape you can listen - Excuse me, I think I want her

what you expect bulldog... i would have given that album 2.5 if i were just listening to gucci for the first time

Gucci's style of music takes time to adjust too - i remeber when i couldn't stand most of his songs....
