The Final Frontier on good headphones or good speakers sounds as good as any Maiden album. The songs really come to life. There is a lot going on with each song so if you want instant gratification this could be tedious, but after 7 or so full listens, it all makes sense. Not for MP3 players or tiny computer speakers. An album where you still hear new things after 30 plus spins. WOW!

You definitely write well, but the review seems a little too focused on the perceived negatives of the album. If not for the 3.8 rating I would've thought that you hated the album. I personally love this album and think it's their best since Seventh Son of a Seventh Son (yep, better than Brave New World). I agree that the album takes a bit of time to work it's magic, but I tend to think that's a good thing. Most of the albums that I like straight away usually end up getting boring after 10-20 listens. The thing I do like about your review (other than the quality of the writing) is that you give Starblind its dues.

final Frontier made for a really shit opening song at soundwave. I mean, remember aces high? BAM there they are and it's epic. This time they slowly walk out and start playing a boring riff while nicko looks like he could pass out any minute playing a basic beat

Kinda agree about that song (and El Dorado as well), but the rest of the songs they played from this were just about the highlights of their set for me.
