Everyone in here should be giving Shellac's first LP a spin if they haven't already.

I like "A Minute" more than any Big Black song personally.

I'd put this, Songs About Fucking and Rapeman's album all above At Action Park, but you cant go wrong with any of them.

I'd probably sooner check Rapeman than At Action Park honestly. Maybe I'll get to both eventually... From what I've heard by Shellac, the differences between Big Black and Shellac make me feel like I'd like Shellac considerably less.

Shellac is Big Black with more diverse time signatures, more repetition, better production. The one thing they're not is more raw though. It's like a noisier Fugazi.

The rawness is the main reason I prefer Big Black.

To be a contrarian:
"better production"
The lo-fi is something I feel Big Black really benefits heavily from using.
"more repetition"
Tell me about it... huge flaw in my opinion.
"more diverse time signatures"
That sounds like it could be cool if its used correctly, though I've never been a math rock kind of guy.

The band who put out an album titled Songs About Fucking just has to be raw.

I agree, but Shellac is part math rock and it just doesn't work as well when you cross over to that side.
Tell me about it... huge flaw in my opinion.
It depends. Sometimes you want to get your ass kicked. I've enjoyed getting my ass kicked musically a lot lately. The album fulfills that purpose.
That sounds like it could be cool if its used correctly, though I've never been a math rock kind of guy.
I'm not either. It's a lot more pleasurable combined with some of the elements (noise, abrasion, shout vocals) present here.
