yeah i was very close to chucking Lucy or Strawberry Fields in for how iconic they are, but the choruses just dont do anything for me. Blue Jay Way might get in over Within You Without You for that trippy midpiece seperator, though. and magical mystery tour could open side 2, the way sgt peppers opens side 1 for sure.

Mono or stereo? Cuz the mono version of Lucy has some trippy phased vocals that combined with not-panned drums make it pretty impactful and the effects on the vocals get more pronounced with every chorus repetition (so especially on the third one), whereas they botched every single stereo version of it so far (even the 2017 mix which at least fixed the panning)

but yeah to elaborate, strawberry fields is a very gud song. its got sum indian shit, cello, brass, reversed textures, mellotron arranged beautifully. ringos drumming in a trance for once and john sounds like he's stuck in a different dimension. its just surely not one of their best with THAT lilting dwindling fiddlefuck anticlimax of a refrain. i'd rather listen to any of michelle, girl, drive my car, baby youre a rich man, something, everybody got sumfin to hide, helter skelter etc. because they have redeemable melodies, the wiggles instrumentals aside.
