Wtf?! Taking Back Sunday is probably one of my favorite bands. And I can say without a doubt that you guys all need to listen to pop punk more. Because if you can call Taking Back Sunday pop punk you need to be shot. They are EMO. Arse lickers...

If this (www.hxcmp3.com/bands/1710) is an emo band, and Taking Back Sunday sounds nothing like them remotely, then how is TBS emo? On top of that, when a band like Brand New is pop-punk and TBS sounds like them, how is TBS not pop-punk? Answer me that.
Taking Back Sunday are terrible writers. The problem lies mainly in that they write trite livejournal crap but the really annoying thing that gets to me is they just repeat everything. They use the image "staring down the barrel of a gun" on three different songs on this CD. I mean, I could imagine if it was a concept album that revolves around the moment you're about to get shot in the head, but no, it's all about breakups and is certainly not a concept album.
I really liked "Tell All Your Friends", me and my friends play Cute Without the E alot, its good fun. I really wanna see what people think of their new album "Where You Want To Be", their backup vocalist (forgot his name, the guy who backs up Larza and plays guitar) left the line-up and so did their bassist. But anyways I enjoyed Tell All Your Friends and I can truthfully say I liked Where You Want To Be is better than Tell All Your Friends.

Brand New is pop-punk? Holy crap, I must look into this because this throws off my whole existence as I know it.... Ok, when Simple Plan is Pop-punk and TBS has much feeling in their lyrics than "I'm Just a Kid" and much more complicated music (I'm a drummer and a sucky guitarist, I've done my research) how can they be pop-punk? Maybe they're Rock.... SORRY! But they're not pop-punk.

Taking Back Sunday is a pretty good band. Personally, I think Tell All Your Friends was better than Where You Want To Be.

Your argument would be great if it weren't for the fact that Simple Plan is a pop band and the genre pop-punk includes some talented bands like The Descendents, ALL, Rufio, and Bodyjar. I am a guitarist of 9 years and a writer of 12 and I am sorry to break it to you that Taking Back Sunday, in both instrumental and writing ability, aren't too far off from A Simple Plan. Both play simplistic songs with simple lyrics. At least A Simple Plan is straight up MTV crap. TBS thinks they're being deep by repeating the same trite livejournal clichéd BS for 10 songs, which is infinitely more tragic.

Talk about an alright band getting ruined for having ignorant fans...

This cd is alright once in a while and the new one is better because the sound's more varied but it's not like Adam's the second coming of Christ. Get over it.

i dont care how long you've played guitar or wrote about your mother in your bedroom, but they are miles and miles ahead of simple plan, lyrically especially..and its not always the difficulty of the music, its the presentation, i would think after 9 years of playin you would know that...same w/ the lyrics, presentation is huge

"i dont neccisarily write amazing lyrics, i write lyrics that are fun to sing"
-ben kweller

this is a good phylosaphy that is used alot in tbs work

A more cynical mind than mine would equate that quote to "I can't write amazing lyrics"

Anyway, DFelon wasn't saying that music has to be complex to be good. He was just saying that TBS don't play complex music (which you seem to be agreeing with) because the other guy said that they did.

Shabutie you just ruined the argument.

You said TBS doesn't make complex lyrics. But they are miles ahead of Simple Plan.

Simple Plan and TBS both write catchy lyrics about relationships. They are simple, elementary and pointless.

TBS gets way more credit than they deserve from 16 year old boys who like to lust after cheerleaders.

Well yes, that's true.
The point is to listen to their styles of singing. If you haven't noticed, they are totally different. You have to realize that song quality is not based merely on the technical aspects of their lyrical abilities. But you also have to consider their style, and what they're trying to achieve. Just because their lyrics are complex does not mean that they would be great. Obviously, would you like a band who sang about elaborating Emerson's views on transcendentalism?

For Taking Back Sunday, their lyrical style matches their musical style and fits it well, and so that's all that matters.

Simple Plan and TBS both write catchy lyrics about relationships. They are simple, elementary and pointless.

Wow. The first thing that you said that I semi-agree with. Except Simple Plan's style has a tone of mockery, while Taking Back Sunday has a more serious tone. They are simple, but who really cares? Even if the lyrics were complex, would it mean anything if they did not match the style of the song, and had no feelings to it?

By the way, to understand what they are trying to say, you should get a girlfriend. And if you have one already, think about getting another one.

TBS gets way more credit than they deserve from 16 year old boys who like to lust after cheerleaders.

Smart. Smart. *Sigh* Show's your true genius.

ok...here is the difference between TBS and Simple Plan, Simple Plan sold out plain and simple...listen to their previous band "Reset" and tell me how much they have changed! TBS is catchy and great but I dont think that people need to get upset due to the fact that they get labeled as Pop-punk, I am a huge fan and i could care less...their 2nd album isn't overly creative they use the same formula for all their songs but it still works! To quote Sam sutherland a reviewer for Exclaim mag "Without bothering to expand into new musical or lyrical territory, the band sticks to the formula that has got them this far-- and hey, if it ain't broke, why fix it?".
I agree with this but yet i still love them...!

P.s. just to piss people off for my enjoyment here is another quote from sam sutherland
"Perhaps the musical equivalent of a dinner at Boston pizza...Taking back sunday are like emo's backstreet boys"

IF you can take that and still like them, then you are a true fan and you shouldn't feel the need to protect their musical integrity when it is brought into question.....(Check out .Moneen. they are a great band, you'll enjoy them if you like Saves the day's old albums)!

Ever heard of a band maturing musically? These guys have a hell of a long way to go, and it's pretty obvious they're not going to go anywhere.

I bought this one last year, but after 2 weeks I've grown tired of it. I was a bit disappointed. I only bother to listen to You're So Last Summer on some occasions.

3/5

The new album is even worse, IMO
