John Farnham!?!?!? That's very harsh.

I gotta say though, I'm not a huge fan of 'Plans'.

Can't compare as I haven't got BOT's latest but loving a bit of John Farnham nostalgia.

No shame in having a VOICE and persona like his. Great Aussie.

Holy Auldy sighting Batman. Hope all has been well mate.

And with a nice summary too. Yeah, this album definitely owes a little to 'Diorama'... But less to 'Young Modern'.

:P thanks man, all has been (and is well) except my feet smell really bad atm, and I've been really busy with uni stuff, but its clearing up now. Too busy to write/type, but always enough to digest enough reviews

Listened to this all morning at work. Solid, but your right, where is the mongrel.

Saw them live at the gov a little while ago which was amazing, as per usual, and saw Karnivool play there 2 weeks ago.

Also, Basement Byrds album > S/T Birds of Tokyo album. I'm Just Saying!

Good to hear Auldy... Well, all but the feet, which I didn't really want to hear. Thanks for the agreement on the "mongrel" comment. And great to hear they still kick a$$ live.

Hmm, Basement Byrds... Didn't think they would be my kind of thing, but could have my arm twisted.

LOL at Farnesy not being int he Sputnik database. Come on Jim-Bob, you know you wannad review 'Whispering Jack'.

Nice work Davey, spot on.

Excellent call on the lack of mongrel, definitely agree with that. I'm surprised that 'Murmurs' hasn't got a mention, I think it's by far the best track on the album and the only one with some real mongrel and guts.

Loving 'Circles' and 'The Gap' also. Saw them test 'Circles' in Sydney, had never heard it before but it still went off, rare for a new track.

While I do like most of the songs I think this is a fair way off Universes, can see what most people are saying about consistency, but I feel there are some stinkers here that weren't present on 'Universes', 'Unspeakable Scene' is quite ordinary and not a big fan of 'Waiting For The Wolves' (Wo-oah, wo-oah, wo-oah???) There are also some standouts on 'Universes' that aren't present or up to the same standard on self titled, except 'Murmurs'.

I'm a big fan of both Karnivool and Birds Of Tokyo, but judging by their latest efforts, it seems to me Karnivool are headed in a more interesting, and far more ambitious direction that Birds.

Woohoo, we have another 'Circles' fan. I wouldn't quite say it's their best song ever though. Maybe Ian's best vocal performance though.

I have no idea what you are talking about Scoot... & I'm unsure I want to.

BorisBewick... LOL. He was assistant coach at the kangas last year. Thanks BB... Billy mentioned in his review that 'Murmurs' was probably the heaviest song here. I did have a few notes I was trying to include in the review (especially about the fuzzy/loud/heavy guitar portion), but couldn't squeeze it in.

Even with the consistency factor, I think this is well behind 'Universes' (see my review for that LP which I rated 4.5). I try to remain quiet about the Karnivool comparison nowadays, because there is a big bunch of bad meanies that always beat me up when I say BoT>Karnivool. (Ooops, run Davey run).

If This Ship Sinks (I Give In) is the best song they have written.
